Valin
Real Clear Politics Katharine C. Gorka August 11, 2021 As overreach in classrooms by progressive school administrators, nonprofits and the federal government has reached new heights, parents are stepping up to fight back. Moms for Liberty, Informed Parents of California, EdFirstNC, NJ Parental Rights, No Left Turn in Education and Parents Against Critical Theory are just a few of the hundreds of new parent groups that have emerged across the country in recent months. Many parents have become education activists because of schools’ failure to bring children back into the classroom or their continued imposition of mask mandates. Others are engaging because of the content being taught. Whether it’s age-inappropriate sex education, critical race theory, or anti-American history, parents are seeing more of what their children are learning—thanks to COVID’s virtual learning—and they don’t like it. As a result, parents are organizing, speaking out, and pushing back, and they are having a noticeable impact. Some of the most effective efforts have begun with individual parents who reached a boiling point and decided to speak out. Mom and investigative journalist A.P. Dillon helped expose critical race theory training in Wake County, N.C., public schools. Elana Fishbein was a lone parent in Lower Marion, Pa., who objected to content in her children’s curriculum, which, in her words, “described ‘whiteness’ as an entitlement to steal land, garner riches, and get special treatment on equity and race.” That letter reached a national audience when Tucker Carlson invited her onto his Fox News Channel show. Valin
Fairfax County confronts critical race theory Sarah Weaver August 12, 2021 (Snip) Unfortunately, the teaching of false history in service of so-called "anti-racism" does not stop here. Anyone following the debate over critical race theory in public schools has heard about Loudoun County — the Virginia suburb that has made headlines over the past months. Now, some 35 miles away, Fairfax County, Virginia, faces a similar controversy. In conjunction with Teaching Tolerance, a social justice education initiative created by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Fairfax County schools are revamping their history curriculum to include teaching that "the United States was founded on protecting the interests of white, Christian men who owned property." The county and its newfound initiative, called "One Fairfax," emphasizes "equity," a laser focus on race, and, in a video that has since been taken down, "woke" kindergartners. (Snip) "One Fairfax," first adopted in a November 2017 meeting, is filled with talk of "equity." For the critical race theorists, any disparate outcome is itself proof of racism. As popular critical race theorist Ibram X. Kendi put it in his book How to be an Antiracist, "The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination." Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic explain in their book Critical Race Theory: An Introduction that "CRT’s critique of merit" has to do with its critique of a focus on "color blindness and equal opportunity, rather than equal results." Taking a page out of the book of critical race theory, Fairfax County schools would ensure that, in their own words, "The Focus Remains on Race." This would mean focusing on eliminating "unequitable outcomes." Investigative reporting from Luke Rosiak of the Daily Caller revealed that, in collaboration with the Soros-funded group Local and Regional Government Alliance on Race and Equity, school officials learned how to substitute "politically difficult" language for easier words such as "equity." The document shows a "strategic plan" to advance such initiatives and recommends officials "apply equity policy to Early Childhood education as a starting point." Valin
School nurse speaks out against mask mandates, quits job during school board meeting A nurse who worked at Five Hawks Elementary told her school board last week that she will not "harm the emotional, mental, or physical health and education of these children any longer." Rose Williams August 15, 2021 A school nurse recently spoke at her district’s school board meeting to protest mask mandates for children, saying she can no longer work for a school that does not put its students first. A nurse who worked at Five Hawks Elementary in the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools district told her school board last week that she will not “harm the emotional, mental, or physical health and education of these children any longer.” She spoke to roaring applause and cheering, stating that no one in the school’s administration “would stand up for [the children] and say, ‘enough is enough.’” “Last year did nothing to help the physical, emotional, mental health, safety, or education of these children. It harmed and hurt them,” the nurse said. “We have done an injustice to our [Prior Lake-Savage] children.” (Snip) ____________________________________________________________________
