MIAMI (CBSMiami) –  Chanting “we are not afraid,” thousands of Cubans took to the streets Sunday to demand the end of the communist dictatorship.

The COVID crisis has only exacerbated the unrest on the island nation, which is why protesters also called for food and vaccines.

Local leaders took to social media in support of the demonstrations.

“We stand united with the Cuban people on the island and across our community at this historic moment in the struggle for freedom, dignity, and basic human rights,” wrote Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on Twitter. “May their courageous actions bring about real change and move us closer to the dream of a free Cuba.”

Cuba Cuts Internet Access Amid Anti-Communist Protests

Cole Carnick

July 13, 2021

Cuba's Communist government is restricting access to social media websites as anti-regime protests rock the island nation, according to an internet access watchdog.

The country's sole telecoms company, the government-owned ETECSA, is limiting access to social networking platforms Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram, NetBlocks reported Monday. The restrictions are "likely to limit the flow of information from Cuba," the U.K.-based internet monitor group said, after thousands of demonstrators in more than a dozen cities protested against the country's Communist regime.

The internet blackout comes amid a government crackdown on demonstrators, who took to the streets Sunday to protest the government's handling of persistent power outages, food and medicine shortages, and rising coronavirus cases. Viral videos on social media sites showed Cubans chanting "freedom" and demanding an end to the Communist regime, which has ruled the country for more than six decades. In response to the unprecedented demonstrations, government authorities have arrested more than 100 dissidents, according to Cuban human rights group Cubalex. Plainclothes officers have assaulted protesters, and police have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at demonstrators, according to activists on the ground.

Live from Havana

Scott Johnson

The Obama cat has the Biden administration’s tongue as the Communist thugs carry on in Havana, imprisoning anyone who can get the word out on the open air prison they maintain to support the regime. The continued tyranny and immiseration appear to be reaching a breaking point with the protests that have brought the regime back into the news. It’s time for it to go.

Yesterday Cuban police arrested the popular YouTube/Instagram personality Dina Stars at her home while she was interviewed on the Spanish Cuatro channel’s television program Todo Es Mentira (I believe that is translated “Everything Is a Lie”).

VIDEO: Watch the Music Video That Inspired the Cuban Uprising

Who are the artists? Rolling Stone has details.

Quote

The Cuban artists Yotuel Romero, Descemer Bueno, Maykel Osorbo, Eliécer “el Funky” Márquez, and the reggaeton duo Gente de Zona collaborated on the rap track and released it in February, after which it amassed more than six million views on YouTube. The lyrics take direct aim at Cuba’s communist government: “No more lies. My people ask for freedom, not more doctrines. We no longer shout, ‘Motherland or death,’ but ‘homeland and life,’ and we begin to build what we dreamed, what they destroyed with their hands.” The title “Patria Y Vida” (“homeland and life”) is a bitter play on “patria o muerte” (“homeland or death”), a popular slogan associated with the rise of the communist leader Fidel Castro in the late Fifties.

On Point: Cuban Freedom Rebellion Shakes Cuban, Chinese and American Socialist Elites

The communist regime believes the protests and the demands are coordinated. By whom? Cuba’s foreign minister claimed — without evidence — the U.S. had financed the protests. Typical communist narrative warfare — blame the U.S. The CCP blamed the U.S. for inciting Tiananmen’s and Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protests.

Fidel Castro had charisma. International “progressive” leftists — sad cases like Senator Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY — still venerate Fidel and excuse the regime’s vicious tyranny.

Diaz-Canel has minus personality, so 2021’s regime suffers from a severe charisma deficit it cannot blame on America. He just isn’t capable of jiving mass audiences with “hope” and utopian rhetoric. However, he is as long winded as Fidel. The BBC reported he gave a four-hour-long televised rant calling protestors “counter-revolutionaries.” He stated, “The order of combat is given, the revolutionaries take to the streets.”

More narrative warfare: “Revolutionaries” translated from Commie propaganda means “armed thugs the regime provides with food and toilet paper.” Diaz-Canel was ordering his security forces to attack the demonstrators. He hopes repression works.

"Failed" at what exactly? If you compare them based on accessibility to healthcare, literacy rates, homelessness, unemployment, etc, they're doing pretty well compared to the US, and they're absolutely miles ahead of capitalist third world states.

Remember - the world isn't black and white, and a nice big GDP per capita value doesn't mean the people live in luxury. Just ask a kid from the favelas of Sao Paulo."

This is what Ignorant People say.
