American Thinker

Following January 6, we’ve been reading stories about people imprisoned for months in solitary confinement and meekly accepting grotesque plea bargains just to get out of the government’s toils. Thomas Edward Caldwell and his attorney, however, are made of sterner stuff. It’s to be hoped that their fight against the federal government will open a new chapter in fighting back against the calumnies and prosecutions emanating from a hyper-partisan “justice” department.

Briefly, on January 6, a combination of Trump supporters, provocateurs, and possible federal actors entered the United States Capitol, as so many leftists had before them. Footage indicates that many walked through open doors with Capitol Officers welcoming them. They wandered through the Capitol and a couple of people stole things. A Capitol Officer murdered an unarmed woman.

The entire leftist establishment announced that what happened was worse than the Civil War (650,000 dead), Pearl Harbor (2,335 dead), and 9/11 (2,996 dead) put together. Since then, the feds have pursued people in a way reminiscent of Inspector Javert pursuing Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, with those arrested for non-violent crimes placed in solitary confinement for months. This is despite the fact that most of the charges boil down to trespassing and “parading.”

This treatment must be understood against the backdrop of 2020, which saw rioters burn down cities, loot to the tune of billions of dollars, brutally assault people and kill more than 20 people, including police officers. All this violence and destruction receive celebratory applause from the same Democrat crew now hyperventilating about January 6. In addition, throughout the year, Democrat-run cities have explicitly or effectively done away with bail and simply allowed known, highly violent criminals, to roam the streets, where they’ve committed terrible claims.

The handful of January 6 arrestees who have finally had their cases brought up have meekly yielded to stringent plea bargains. In April, Jon Schaffer, who confessed to being a member of the Oath Keepers (and I have to say I don’t believe any of these confessions at this point), pleaded guilty in exchange for squealing and then entering the government’s witness protection program. Bye-bye. old life; hello, new life, knowing you abandoned your principles.:snip:

Did the Feds Lie About January 6? Navy Vet Capitol Protester Says So and Wants His Case Moved Out of 'Trump-Hating' Capital

The attorney for one of the men at the “protest gone wild” at the Capitol Building last January has called on the federal judge to move Thomas Edward Caldwell’s trial out of “Trump-hating” Washington, D.C.  Caldwell was the first of the Capitol protesters to be arrested. The coverage of his arrest set the tone for media coverage of all other arrestees in the Department of Justice’s “shock and awe” plan to root out alleged “white nationalist” militancy. Caldwell’s attorney says that’s the problem because it’s untrue.:snip:

So Much Evidence that January 6, 2021 was a Calculated Set-Up

Political persecution and isolation of vast swaths of the citizenry by the Justice Department, the Intelligence Community and the Judiciary in the wake of the January 6, 2021 Capitol incursion should bring a chill down the spine of every American. This same troika, but with different nomenclature, was mobilized by 20th Century despots to eliminate their political enemies and establish a police state.

(I attended the January 6, 2021 rally at the U.S. Capitol and observed first-hand what the media and the Democrats have falsely and with malice claimed was an “armed insurrection.”)

The initial step in consolidating power is to incessantly demonize as enemies of the state one’s political opponents.  The second, is to isolate and delegitimize them by either staging or so exaggerating an incident that any and all steps to quash them are acceptable in order to “save the nation.”  Therefore, the question is: was January 6th pre-planned by legitimate Trump supporters, was it spontaneous or was it a calculated set-up?:snip:

January 6 inmates endure ‘human rights violations on a daily basis,’ bail motion alleges

If the late Jeffrey Epstein's alleged partner in sex trafficking can be granted a laptop 13 hours a day to actively participate in her defense, why not January 6 defendants

The jailhouse accommodation for Ghislaine Maxwell is the most prominent example cited in a bail application for alleged Capitol rioter Dominic Pezzola, submitted to D.C. federal court Friday.

The 43-year-old veteran, now incarcerated in D.C. jail for 150 days, has been effectively shut out of his own defense in violation of constitutional guarantees specifically for defendants, not just their counsel, the filing says.

Not only is Pezzola unable to "adequately" view the voluminous text, audio and video evidence held by the prosecution, but like all other January 6 defendants housed a short drive from the U.S. Capitol, his right to attorney-client privilege is functionally meaningless, his lawyers Marty Tankleff and Steven Metcalf argue.

They raised similar objections about lack of privacy and access to evidence to Just the News two months ago, following brief outrage from Democratic and Republican lawmakers about Department of Corrections policies for January 6 defendants and other D.C. jail inmates.:snip:

Political And Media Class Solemnly Commemorates Six Months Of Overwrought Whining About January 6

This week, the political and media class emotionally marked the six-month anniversary of what they call the January 6 “insurrection.” The commemorations were reminiscent of an elementary school kid who insists on celebrating their “half birthday” — a juvenile self-indulgence, but understandable for a child. Less so for adults who are supposed to be governing the country.

Members of Congress gathered for gauzy network TV interviews to gush about the meaningful and tight-knit “support groups” they have formed. They’re proudly donating articles of clothing worn on that day to the Smithsonian, so future generations can bear witness to the experience of wearing a suit while a Congressional workday was temporarily interrupted.

The latest surge of attention around January 6 is another opportunity for elected officials to demand the public give them sympathy for everything they’ve been through — an inversion of the typical elected official/constituent relationship. For the past six months, constituents have been lectured into providing comfort and support for the politicians they hired to represent them. Pretty nice setup if you’re an elected official, with the usual expectation being that constituents get to demand things of you. So, from a self-interested perspective, it makes sense that they’d want to keep this event front-and-center in the nation’s consciousness for as long as humanly possible.

“Not even during the Civil War did insurrectionists breach our Capitol, the citadel of our democracy. But six months ago today, insurrectionists did,” read a White House statement that purports to be authored by Joe Biden — which went on to proclaim that the event posed an “existential crisis.”

Unless your brain has been permanently addled by the torrent of hyperbole, no one attempting to be minimally objective could possibly say with a straight face that a several-hour delay of legislative business was in any sense an “existential threat.” We know this because the “existence” of the country was never in jeopardy due to the actions of a marauding MAGA mob, most of whom appeared to have no idea what they were even doing inside the “citadel.” The government was never at risk of being overthrown, and any insinuation to the contrary has always been beyond laughable. But there’s still political utility to be mined from casting this event in the most maximalist, incendiary terms: a “swiftly dispersed goofball riot” likely would not be marked with six-month remembrance ceremonies, even though it’s a more accurate description of what occurred.:snip:

Quote

If you haven’t been following the near-daily deluge of new January 6 prosecutions — touted as the most far-reaching federal prosecutorial effort in US history, with at least 560 arrests — you might be unfamiliar with what the alleged violators are actually being charged with. “Existential threat” isn’t the phrase that would immediately come to mind in many instances.

If memory serves there were no where near that many arrests during the bombings in the late 60's early 70's.

Federal Judge Throws a Monkey Wrench Into Capitol Riot Prosecutions

A federal judge ruled on Friday that the Justice Department could not use a contractor to organize grand jury materials relating to the more than 500 defendants who have been charged in the January 6 Capitol riot.

The evidence is largely in the form of social media posts, videos, and emails. The Justice Department agreed to pay Deloitte Financial Advisory Services $6.1 million to set up a database containing the evidence gathered by the FBI in their investigation. The database would be available to both the prosecution and the defendants in order to satisfy the requirement that all “exculpatory” evidence be given to the defense.

The government was going to give Deloitte access to sensitive grand jury information, however. The judge ruled that Deloitte was not a government entity and was not entitled to view the secret information.:snip:

Ashli Babbitt’s Mom Speaks

Her family’s grief has been compounded by the media’s grotesque portrayal of their loved one as a “QAnon conspiracy theorist” or worse, a traitor who got what she deserved.:snip:

Quote

A few weeks after Ashli was killed, Witthoeft said she finally took her head off her pillow and started making calls. A staffer for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) office at first hung up on her, insisting he didn’t know who Ashli Babbitt was. Witthoeft called again; the same staffer answered. She asked to speak with her senator for two minutes. “Ma’am, I am sorry for your unfortunate situation but if your daughter hadn’t stormed the Capitol, she wouldn’t have been shot,” Witthoeft said the staffer told her. “Dianne Feinstein will never have two minutes for you.”

Donald Trump called Witthoeft on July 1. He spoke very warmly about Ashli and talked about the political prisoners held without bond in a D.C. jail for months awaiting trial or plea offers. The people who went to Washington on January 6, Witthoeft said, were “true patriots doing what [the president] told them to do. They believed this was a stolen election.”

Here we see 2 completely different reactions. It would not surprise me in the least if this Staffer gave money for bail money to the BLM Rioters.

Here once Again I see yet one more divide in  America. There was a time (and not all That long ago) when yes there were 1-2 Wedge Issues. Today it seems like we are nothing but Wedge Issues. Political/Cultural Tribalism is the word of the day, and the most extreme voices are the only ones heard. :(

MTG, 3 other GOP House members locked out of D.C. Jail when trying to visit Jan. 6 defendants

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said that she and three other Republican members of Congress were told they were trespassing, and were then locked out of the D.C. Jail on Thursday.

"As members of Congress, we have oversight over all kinds of facilities like federal prisons, like detention facilities that hold illegals," Greene told Real America's Voice host David Brody. "But today we went and visited the D.C. Jail here in Washington DC to ask questions about the January 6 defendants ... we were told that we were trespassing."

Greene had gone with GOP Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Paul Gosar of Arizona and Matt Gaetz of Florida to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where dozens of those who were involved in the Capitol breach on Jan. 6 are being held in pre-trial detention.:snip:
