Top allies of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy are reportedly planning to oust Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, by the end of the month because she refuses to put the party first while she continues to harp on former President Donald Trump.

“There is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month’s end,” a top McCarthy ally said on Monday. “When there is a vote, it won’t be a long conference; it will be fast. Everyone knows the outcome.”

“She is a big distraction,” the ally said. “I don’t see McCarthy saving her this time.”

“This is a broad range of lawmakers who have had it with her,” a second McCarthy ally said. “She’s a liability, and McCarthy’s as fed up as the rest of us that she is focused on the past rather than winning back the House.”

Steve Scalise Says He Will Back Elise Stefanik To Assume Liz Cheney’s Position

There has been increased talk as to which GOP member could replace House Republican Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., should she be ousted from her leadership position. The second-ranking GOP member, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, has reportedly backed Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.

Lauren Fine, Scalise’s spokeswoman, told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday that “House Republicans need to be solely focused on taking back the House in 2022 and fighting against Speaker Pelosi and President Biden’s radical socialist agenda, and Elise Stefanik is strongly committed to doing that, which is why Whip Scalise has pledged to support her for Conference Chair.”

Spokesman Harrison Fields for Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., told The Federalist on Wednesday that Donalds’ “feelings have not changed” in terms of support for ousting Cheney. He also mentioned that Donalds thinks there needs to be a conference to “debate it out.”

“He holds firm in his position that Cheney needs to go,” Fields said. “His position is that the conference has to come together and have a robust discussion, a competitive discussion, about who will take the next position.”

Army veteran Denton Knapp has announced a bid for Wyoming's one and only U.S. House seat, meaning that sitting Rep. Liz Cheney will face yet another challenger in the GOP primary.

Knapp, who graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyoming, currently lives in California but is moving to Gillette, according to the Gillette News Record. He will face-off against multiple other Republicans who will also be competing in the contest.
