Tom Homan: Our border is not closed or secure. That's a lie. Why aren't we being told the truth?

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appeared on the Sunday news shows this past weekend to discuss the state of play on our southern border.

I was shocked when he said this to Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday:" "The border is secure. The border is closed. We've been unequivocal in that and we are operationalizing our processes, executing our plans, we are a nation of laws, and we treat vulnerable children humanely. We can do it and we are doing it."

That is not true. The border is not closed and it is not secure.

Mayorkas declared that the current surge of migrants across our southern border was because of President Trump’s policies and not because of the policies of the Biden administration and all the promises and enticements our current president made during the 2020 campaign.

That’s simply not true. This administration is lying to the American people.

I sat in amazement that someone in that position would outwardly and intentionally misstate the facts on national television to the American people who are entrusting him with this country’s safety and security.

The border is not closed.

All one has to do is look at the images from the border. Thousands of unaccompanied children are streaming in at an almost never-before-seen rate. It is unprecedented. :snip:

861 criminals, 92 sex offenders encountered at Texas border in past few days, agent says

(The Center Square) – More than 850 criminals have been encountered at the U.S. border with Mexico this year, including 92 sex offenders and 63 gang members, a U.S. Border Patrol agent tweeted this weekend.

Included among “the copious amounts of groups being encountered” at the Rio Grande Valley, Hastings said, are “a Salvadoran man with a prior conviction for murder” along with 862 criminals, Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings tweeted.

Hastings, who is taking to social media to write about the border crisis while the Biden administration has prevented access to the media, has been reporting the types of people who have been apprehended. Among them were five large groups of families, unaccompanied minors, and some adults totaling 539 people, including 93 unaccompanied minors.:snip:

Border Patrol has released 30,000 directly into US since January

Approximately 30,000 people who illegally crossed the southern border and were taken into federal custody have been released into the United States since January as facilities for detaining migrants reach unprecedented overcapacity, according to the former top border official under the Trump administration.

Mark Morgan, the former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday that the releases have been directly from Border Patrol and that people were not transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where families can be held for up to 20 days. Morgan said he was given the information by officials at the agency.

"You're not going to find that anywhere because they're locking down the information," Morgan said of the figures in a conversation following a roundtable discussion with lawmakers, ranchers, medical officials, and business leaders in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.:snip:

Biden blasted for hiding 'border mayhem' as surge of 1.4 million illegal immigrants projected

The Border Patrol is on track to nab 1.4 million illegal immigrants attempting to jump the border this year, according to the man who ran the Border Patrol in the Obama years then ran Customs and Border Protection during the Trump era.

Mark Morgan, speaking to reporters in Texas on Tuesday, flatly rejected President Biden’s claim last week that the current surge is nothing new and happens “every year.”

And he accused the Biden team of trying to hide the extent of the border mayhem, saying 150,000 illegal immigrants will be nabbed this month alone, compared to less than 35,000 in March last year.:snip:

Gov. Abbott says Operation Lone Star results are 'staggering'

(The Center Square) – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has made 598 criminal arrests and 16,000 illegal immigrant referrals to U.S. Border Patrol over the last 28 days as part of the state's efforts to combat the border crisis, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday.

Abbott said the Biden administration's border policies “have created an open season for human traffickers, for drug smugglers, for drug cartels and gangs."

"These criminals are preying upon women and children exposing them to abuse and to terror," he continued. "Because the federal is government is failing to respond to these dangers, Texas is stepping up to secure the border and keep our communities safe.”:snip:
