President Biden, as one of his first moves in office Wednesday, announced the United States intends to reenter the Paris Agreement, the global pact to combat climate change that the Trump administration rejected.

Biden’s action on the first day of his presidency represents a symbolic fulfillment of a core campaign promise, but it amounts to little substantively for now.

His administration submitted a letter of intent to the United Nations on Wednesday for the U.S. to reenter the Paris Agreement, which was negotiated by the Obama administration when Biden was vice president and enacted in 2015.

But under the terms of the pact, Biden needs to wait another 30 days for the U.S. to be officially back in.

Biden executive order repeals Trump travel ban

Anna Giaritelli, Homeland Security Reporter

January 20, 2021 05:19 PM

President Biden rescinded the Trump administration's travel ban against citizens from seven countries just hours after being sworn into office.

Biden on Wednesday afternoon repealed the first executive order that former President Donald Trump signed upon arriving at the White House in January 2017. The move was one of 17 reversals aimed at reversing policies Trump put into effect.

That ban on travel affected countries in northern Africa and the Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and Sudan. It was the first of three the Trump administration would set into action on the basis that those countries did not adequately vet travelers headed to the United States.

Biden gender equality order rankles religious conservatives

Nicholas Rowan, Staff Writer

January 20, 2021 04:51 PM

President Biden on Wednesday announced an executive order confirming religious conservatives’ fears that he will undo Trump-era exemptions to gender identity nondiscrimination laws.

The order, released in a blast of 17 directives aimed at undoing former President Donald Trump’s policies, requires all entities under federal control to forgo discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Referencing the landmark Supreme Court decision Bostock v. Clayton County, which interpreted Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to protect gay and transgender people in the workplace, Biden’s team said his executive order would enforce that ruling on the government.

Biden’s announcement came after he voiced support for the Equality Act, a bill that has circulated through Congress for several years, which, if passed, would apply much of the content of his order more broadly. Several states have already passed their own versions of the Equality Act, most recently in Virginia, where the requirements have already drawn a challenge from religious liberty advocates.

Biden Signs Executive Orders Ending Trump’s Travel Ban, Stopping Border Wall Construction

President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed a series of executive orders on immigration, moving to preserve and fortify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, to end the so-called “Muslim ban,” and to stop construction on the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Biden’s executive orders are in line with campaign promises that he would overturn a number of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies on day one and come as part of a slate of 17 executive orders, memorandums and proclamations the Democrat will issue on his first day.:snip:

Your crocheted mask is not going to do much good against something that escaped a level 4 bio lab. Besides there's a vaccine for those of you who meet the woke criteria. 😉

1984 was a pretty good year for me. Broke $10.00 an hour. Got an 8x10 camera, 2nd time back to Ireland.

Biden Stops Trump Order To Slash Price Of Insulin, EpiPen

President Joe Biden’s United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Thursday stopped executive orders from his predecessor designed to significantly lower prescription drug prices for Americans, including insulin and epinephrine.

The new administration will apparently re-evaluate the executive action from President Donald Trump toward the end of March. It remains unclear if it will be reinstated.:snip:

ICE Agents Ordered to Free All Illegal Aliens in Custody: ‘Release Them All’

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, tasked with enforcing federal immigration law, are being instructed to free all detainees in their custody, as President Joe Biden’s administration halts deportations.
