On Wednesday, after Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol and blocked Congress from counting the Electoral College votes for Joe Biden, President Donald Trump called for supporters to “go home” but repeated his insistence that he won the 2020 election in a “landslide.” Twitter responded by blocking three of Trump’s tweets and locking his account for 12 hours.

“As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three [Donald Trump] Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy,” Twitter Safety announced on the platform.

“This means that the account of [Donald Trump] will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked,” the platform added. “Future violations of the Twitter Rules, including our Civic Integrity or Violent Threats policies, will result in permanent suspension of the [Donald Trump] account.”

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday that President Donald Trump has been banned from posting on Facebook and Instagram “indefinitely.”

Both Twitter and Facebook (which owns Instagram) temporarily suspended Trump’s accounts Wednesday evening after his supporters rioted at the U.S. Capitol.

Twitter threatened to permanently ban Trump from the platform if he refused to delete three tweets that violated the company’s “Civic Integrity and Violent Threats policies.”

Zuckerberg said in a Thursday statement that Facebook’s 24-hour ban on Trump’s accounts will be extended “indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”

Shopify Just Banned All Trump Stores

January 7, 2021 By Tristan Justice

Shopify stripped down all online stores for President Donald Trump, including the president’s Trump Organization and affiliated campaign account following Wednesday’s Capitol riots.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a Shopify spokeswoman said the president — through comments he made on Wednesday, in which he said the election was “fraudulent” but urged his supporters to “go home now” and “go home in peace” — had violated company policy, which forbids online sellers from supporting organizations or people who encourage violence.

“As a result, we have terminated stores affiliated with President Trump,” Shopify said.
