Valin Posted January 6, 2021 Share Posted January 6, 2021 Just The News Democratic Senate candidates lead in Georgia runoffs with about 44% of the vote in so far, mostly from urban areas Alex Nitzberg January 5, 2021 - 8:37pm Vote counting commenced as polls closed Tuesday evening in the Peach State where two critical races will determine the balance of political power in the U.S. Senate. Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the Senate seat following the resignation of Sen. Johnny Isakson, is facing off against Democrat Raphael Warnock in a special election runoff to serve out the remainder of the Senate term won by Isakson, which will end in January 2023. Former Republican Sen. David Perdue, whose term expired on Jan. 3, is competing against Democrat Jon Ossoff in a runoff race for a regular six-year Senate term. Reverend Raphael Warnock is set to become the state’s first Black U.S. Senator. The other Senate race between Jon Ossoff and David Perdue is too close to call, but Ossoff is ahead by thousands of votes.
