President Trump greeted hundreds of supporters gathered outside a Minnesota rally venue Friday night after Democratic state officials limited attendance to just 250 socially distanced seats.

A crowd many times larger than the number of people allowed a seat near Trump gathered outside the gates in Rochester, southeastern Minnesota, images tweeted by journalists indicate.

Trump took a motorcade to the overflow crowd rather than the state-sanctioned stage after disembarking Air Force One.

“There are thousands of people all because the governor wants to play games,” Trump said as he approached within feet of the large group of supporters gathered behind a barricade.

Milwaukee a showcase for Trump efforts to get minorities behind him

Conservative activists in Milwaukee's black and Hispanic communities say outreach by President Trump and his reelection campaign is forcing Democratic nominee Joe Biden to "actually compete" for minority voters in the traditionally liberal stronghold.

"Trump understands that the first rule of outreach is showing up," said Christopher Lawrence, a black Republican Party official in Waukesha County.

Lawrence said that while Trump made some effort in 2016 to court black voters, "now, he's setting up an infrastructure where he's hiring staff, we are funding offices, we're programming, we're doing events, or canvassing."

"We're actually making the Democrats compete for the vote," he said. "That’s the biggest thing."

Though Biden leads Trump in most polls, the race is expected to be close.

In Wisconsin, Biden leads Trump by 6 points, on average, 50% to 44%.

Trump’s courting of minority voters in Milwaukee is part of a larger battleground strategy to turn out voters who did not cast a ballot for Trump in the last presidential election and drum up new support among minorities.:snip:

Kenosha was the closest county in the state in 2016. Today, residents brace for another tight race.

Four years ago, Donald Trump eked out a win in Kenosha County by 238 votes over then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. It was the closest county in a state with a razor-thin margin.

With Trump seeking reelection against Democratic candidate Joe Biden and tens of thousands of ballots already cast in the county, Kenosha could be close again.

In what has already been an unusual election cycle, the city of Kenosha had to replace its retiring city clerk with more than 30 years experience, and the new one, Matt Krauter, started on Friday.

“You have to pivot and be ready for anything,” Krauter said in an interview on this first day of work. “This is the election. It’s huge. It’s a major function of what this department does.”

Krauter said nearly 27,000 votes have already been cast in the city and there are roughly 53,000 registered voters, putting the voter turnout in the city around 50%.  :snip:

Researchers Estimate Trump Rallies Led To 30,000 Coronavirus Cases And 700 Deaths

A working paper from Stanford University researchers concludes that the communities that hosted Trump rallies “paid a high price in terms of disease and death.”

A series of rallies held by President Donald Trump over three months this summer functioned as COVID-19 superspreader events, leading to thousands more cases and hundreds more deaths than otherwise would have occurred, Stanford University researchers concluded.

Academics from the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research focused on 18 events between June 20 and Sept. 22 and tracked community spread of the coronavirus up to 10 weeks after the rallies, reasoning that “the effects of a superspreader event may snowball over time.”

The rallies resulted in more than 30,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 700 deaths, though not necessarily among attendees, the researchers’ working paper published Friday concluded.

* “Our analysis strongly supports the warnings and recommendations of public health officials concerning the risk of COVID-19 transmission at large group gatherings, particularly when the degree of compliance with guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing is low,” the authors said.

Will Trump win Florida? An update on the numbers

Florida is critically important for President Trump.  Losing it is not the end of his re-election bid, but it will make the chance of winning the race reasonably lower (Trump can still get re-elected if he wins the remaining states he carried in 2016).  In my previous analysis on the Florida race, I wrote that if Trump wins Florida, it will be due to the surge in Latino and black votes.  So far, some indications point in that direction.

First, two days before Election Day, an AtlasIntel poll shows Joe Biden and Donald Trump tied at 49% each.  But what is more interesting is the poll found that 52% of Florida's Latino voters will vote for Trump and just 42% for Biden.  A poll released by Telemundo last week showed Biden leading Trump among Latinos just 48-43%.  Clinton won Florida's Latino votes by 62-35 in 2016.

There are about 2.5 million Latino voters in Florida with 950K, and 640K are affiliated with the Democrats and Republicans, respectively, while 880K are unaffiliated.  By Monday noon (11/02), partisan turnout among Florida's Latino voters is showing a 9% GOP advantage.  If the GOP can maintain a 10-point voter turnout advantage (say, 68% to 58%), and the unaffiliated Latinos split 55-45 for Trump, Biden will win only 52% of the Latino votes versus 48% for Trump.:snip:
