Large California school districts eliminate ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades

Nancy Loo

Dec 13 2021

LOS ANGELES (NewsNation Now) — Bad report cards could soon be a thing of the past in California as some of the state’s largest school districts are dropping “D” and “F” grades.

Los Angeles, Santa Ana, Oakland Unified, Sacramento City Unified and other California districts have decided to limit the use of “Ds” and phased out “Fs” in grading. High schoolers who fail a test or homework assignment can get a do-over or more time to complete the work.

Students who don’t ever finish the assignments or who fail the final exam would earn an “incomplete,” according to EdSource.

The move is called competency-based learning. Advocates argue that assessment should be based on mastery of learning — what students have learned instead of how they test. Supporters also hope it will help kids re-engage after nearly two years of virtual learning during the pandemic.

Catholic university professor docks student’s grade for referring to God as male

A professor at a Catholic university docked a student’s grade for repeatedly referring to God with masculine language — in contradiction to the Catholic church’s documents and the Bible.

The College Fix reported that Cecilia Gonzalez-Andrieu, a professor of theological studies at Loyola Marymount University, harshly graded a student’s paper for using “male-gendered language for God repeatedly.”:snip:

‘White Coats for Black Lives’ Calling the Shots at America’s Medical Schools

White Coats for Black Lives (WC4BL), a radical socialist organization of doctors and medical students, is succeeding in its mission to racialize the practice of medicine, believing that the “dominant medical practice in the United States has been built on the dehumanization and exploitation of Black people.”

With at least 75 chapters at medical schools across the country, WC4BL seeks to radically redefine the practice of medicine in the United States, as it advocated “prioritizing” black patients over other patients and “unlearning toxic medical knowledge and relearning medical care that centers the needs of Black people and communities,” according to its 16-page missive. [Emphasis added].

Princeton Faculty Member Brags About Death Threats Against Trump Admin Envoy

A former Iranian official who is a faculty member at Princeton University recently bragged in an interview about how his hardline government’s death threats against a former top Trump administration official had him and his family "trembling" with fear.

Hussein Mousavian, a former member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team who works as a Middle East security and nuclear policy specialist at Princeton University, said in a recent interview that the Iranian regime’s threats to murder Brian Hook, the Trump administration’s special envoy for Iran, have heavily impacted Hook’s family life.:snip:

Student Leaders Petition University to Evict 'Wealthy and White' Attendees, Give Their Houses to LGBT and Others

Campus culture is on the move.

In August of 2020, I offered “NYU Student Group Petitions for Black-Only Housing So They ‘Can Feel Included.’

For an idea of the societal distance we’ve since traveled, take a look at St. Louis’s Washington University.

As posted via an op-ed in independent school newspaper Student Life, a group of prominent attendees is ready to take housing equilibrium to the next level.

Ranen Miao — president of WU’s student body — lays out the feelings of nearly 50 co-signed enrolees.

Per the piece, nine houses on campus are occupied by “fraternity men, who are disproportionately wealthy and white.”

Meanwhile, “Marginalized communities have little to no space to build community.”

Therefore, the bunch is “calling on WashU to terminate their housing contracts with fraternities and designate current fraternity houses as affinity houses instead.”

The “affinity” concept has really caught on as of late.:snip:

The four-dozen-plus crew is “calling for Washington University to terminate their housing contracts with IFC fraternities, and publicly commit to reallocating fraternity houses as affinity space for Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, MENA (Middle Eastern and North African), low-income, international, LGBTQIA+, female, Muslim, Jewish and differently-abled students.”

Major University Eyes Forcing Professors to Pledge to 'Diversity, Equity and Inclusion' or Have Their Tenures Denied

A Tennessee institution is taking a stand for inclusion by threatening to exclude those who don’t stand for inclusivity.

So far as I can tell, contemporary adult society is mostly one big high school — coolness is king. And in some circles, at least, “diversity, equity, and inclusion” is all the rage.

In corporate America and even the military, DEI has soared. And on college campuses nationwide, it’s taken colossal hold.

Take, for example, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s latest turn.

The College Fix has reportedly obtained 322 pages of new diversity guidelines for the roughly 30,000-student school, spanning 20 administrative and academic departments.:snip:

Medical School Eyes Hiring 'Leaders' Based on Social Justice Views, Teaching Organs Aren't Gender-Specific

If there’s one thing a study of biology needs, it’s the implementation of left-wing politics.

So seem to believe those in charge at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

In June of 2020, the college created a social justice task force to overhaul the curriculum. UNC SOM’s website announced thusly:

[W]e recognize the importance of integrating social justice into the curriculum to prepare our students and trainees to improve health equity and reduce health disparities. In addition, a just learning environment where faculty are well prepared to support a diverse learner group is essential for our success.:snip:

Major University Bribes Professors to Turn Courses Into 'Antiracist' Education

If you’re a professor at the University of Memphis, you may have the chance to make an extra $3,000.

Depending upon eligibility — and provided that I’m aptly adding two and two — you’ll need to teach youngsters to judge one another by race.

For those willing, the school is extending its cash-filled hand.

Per a link to the proclamation provided by Campus Reform, U of M — which boasts an enrollment of more than 20,000 — hosts the Eradicating Systemic Racism and Promoting Social Justice Initiative.

Observe the opportunity:

The [initiative] is offering an opportunity for interested faculty to critically consider methods and approaches to redesign existing courses housed within their departments to better advance the tenets and charge of the University’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice:snip:

Iconic Christian University Asks Students to Pick From Nine Gender Identities

These days, gender identity is everywhere. Take, for example, the goings-on at DePaul University.

As relayed by The College Fix, the school’s Campus Connect student portal allows enrollees to choose among not seven, not eight, but nine labels.

Take your contemporary pick:

There’s also a checkbox for “I do not wish to self-identify.”:snip:

Meet The Seattle Schools Woke Indoctrination Czar Who Married A Child Molester

America's schools are following the footsteps of Seattle on a quest for racial equity. But Seattle's efforts have been marked by animus, lies, and worsening results.

Spend enough time studying the “racial equity” and “ethnic studies” programs sweeping school districts across the nation and you’ll find that they are following in the footsteps, on a several-year delay, of one of America’s most progressive cities: Seattle.

It’s worth examining, then, how all that worked out in Seattle. Despite decades of the most aggressive equity programs anyone could ask for, Seattle’s racial disparities are among the worst in the nation – and they’re getting worse, not better.:snip:

At the forefront of Seattle Public Schools’ (SPS) initiatives was Tracy Castro-Gill, until recently its director of ethnic studies, who represented herself as a fierce Chicana who overcame homelessness and was willing to take on racism no matter who she had to battle, turning schools into vehicles for social change.

Virginia Democrats Fight to Hide Sexually Explicit School Materials from Parents

Virginia Democrats are fighting not only to keep sexually explicit materials in public schools but also to kill a bill that would require school boards to notify parents of sexually explicit materials being introduced.

Maintaining the ideology behind former Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s campaign-ending gaffe saying, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach,” Virginia Senate President Louise Lucas (D) said, “when it comes to what’s in the curriculum, that should be left to the school boards and to the boards of education. And if a parent wants to opt out, I think they should have the right to do that.”:snip:

Liberals Turn Against ‘Transparency’ When Parents Demand to See What Their Kids Are Being Taught

“There it is: they don't want you to know what's being taught to your children,” Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Christopher F. Rufo tweeted Thursday, responding to an article by NBC News stoking fear that parents knowing what their kids are being taught in public schools will cause teachers to preemptively censor obscene material and radical indoctrination in their lesson plans.

“Conservative activists want schools to post lesson plans online, but free speech advocates warn such policies could lead to more censorship in K-12 schools,” the NBC News story warned Thursday, in an article about state initiatives to ensure “curriculum transparency.”:snip:
