The GOP-controlled Congress has received a report from the Pentagon advocating the conscription of women—the daughters, young wives, and young mothers of America, ages 18 to 25—according to the Washington Times.

This is truly unprecedented.  At the tail end of the Obama administration, then Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who opened combat roles to women (with the enthusiastic blessing of John McCain), wanted women to be required to register with Selective Service, but that went nowhere.          

This report was prepared for Congress by the office of the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness (USDPR).  The man currently serving as acting USDPR is Rear Admiral Anthony Kurta, a holdover from the Obama administration.  Yet he’s not merely a holdover: Kurta is also President Trump’s ignominious nominee for the same position.  According to the Department of Defense’s website, on June 12, “Kurta talked about the importance of diversity in the workforce as he led the ceremony for the 6th-annual LGBT Pride event in the Pentagon Auditorium.”
