DEVELOPING: The terrorists alleged to have plowed a van into a crowd of pedestrians in a popular tourist area -- resulting in at least 13 deaths -- were holed up in a Barcelona restaurant Thursday as images of the carnage, showing bodies lying crumpled and bleeding in the street, flooded forth from the Spanish city.
Catalan police tweeted that "there are mortal victims and injured from the crash" without specifying numbers. The Barcelona-based La Vanguardia newspaper is reporting at least one dead and 20 injured.
The incident took place on Las Ramblas of Barcelona, the famous main pedestrian walk way that crosses the city. Police described the incident on Twitter as a "massive crash.":snip:

Search continues for driver in Barcelona attack

Spain is conducting a major anti-terror operation Friday in a bid to hunt down the driver who plowed into pedestrians on a busy street in central Barcelona a day earlier, killing at least 13 people and injuring more than 100.
Fifteen of the injured people were in serious condition and authorities warned the death toll could rise.
Security forces were mobilized following a deadly terrorist attack Thursday afternoon, where authorities say a jihadist used a van to target people in one of the Catalonia capital’s most popular streets and managed to escape the scene by foot.
The injured and dead were from 24 different countries, including France, Germany, Pakistan and the Philippines, a government statement said:snip:

CIA warned Barcelona about terror threat, report says

The CIA warned local police in Barcelona two months ago that the city’s popular tourist area, Las Ramblas, could be the target of a terrorist attack just like Thursday’s deadly vehicular attack, a Spanish newspaper reported.
The warning from the American intelligence agency followed repeated vehicular attacks across Europe -- including in London, Nice, Berlin and Stockholm, El Periodico reported, although Fox News has not independently confirmed the report’s contents.
“The CIA warned the Mossos [local police] two months ago that Barcelona, and in particular the Rambla, could be the scene of a terrorist attack like the one that occurred this afternoon,” the report said.:snip:

Meanwhile, on CNN, the denial and willful ignorance continue.

In Spain Thursday, a man drove a truck into a crowd at Barcelona’s popular Costa Dorada area, killing at least 13 and injuring 100. On CNN, Wolf Blitzer asked, “There will be questions about copycats. Questions, if what happened in Barcelona, was at all, at all, a copycat version of what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.”
No, Wolf, it was a phenomenon with which you and your CNN colleagues have only a glancing familiarity: Islamic jihad. Of course Wolf Blitzer immediately reached for a connection with Charlottesville, because he most likely doesn’t believe that there are Islamic jihadis at all, just mentally ill lone wolves driven to violence by “Islamophobia.” Jihad doesn’t fit his network’s narrative. And vehicular jihad? Wolf has never heard of such a thing.
Last June, the Islamic State published a poster depicting an SUV driving over a heap of skulls and bearing the legend “Run Over Them Without Mercy.”:snip:
