Two suspects are in custody after a shooting at a mosque in Quebec City left six people dead and eight injured, officials said early Monday. Quebec City police confirmed to ABC News that the two suspects being held are men in their 20s.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the shooting a "terrorist attack on Muslims," and offered his condolences. “While authorities are still investigating and details continue to be confirmed, it is heart-wrenching to see such senseless violence. Diversity is our strength, and religious tolerance is a value that we, as Canadians, hold dear," Trudeau said.

Christine Coulombe of the Quebec Provincial Police confirmed the number of victims and said that 39 others escaped the scene without injury. Trudeau called the attack "cowardly" in a tweet earlier in the night.

On the other hand, the CBC isn’t the most sensationalistic source out there:

“It seemed to me that they had a Quebecois accent. They started to fire, and as they shot they yelled, ‘Allahu akbar!’ The bullets hit people that were praying. People who were praying lost their lives. A bullet passed right over my head,” said the witness.

Remember – Canada is a gun free zone.

Latest is one shooter was Moroccan and I've seen a couple of non-Amish names as the shooters.

Media was already spinning it as islamaphobia and a backlash on Trump's ban. What will they do now?

So now it is one shooter (a white guy). The Moroccan was just a fleeing witness (wearing a ski mask.... I guess it is Canada). blink.pngblink.png

Update on the Quebec mosque shooting
Paul Mirengoff
Jan. 30 2017

Last night, soon after it happened, I wrote about the shooting at a mosque in Quebec City. As I warned, some of the information being reported initially was inaccurate — par for the course in these kinds of situations. But the main details turned out to be correct.

Here is what it now being reported with reasonable confidence:

There was one shooter. He is Alexandre Bissonnette, a 27 year-old sociology student.

Bissonnette has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder using a restricted firearm, numbers that correspond to the number of people killed and injured. He appears to have acted alone despite initial reports of a second gunman.

Bissonnette had no previous criminal record. He is said to be an introvert who was bullied in school.

An organization that helps Syrian refugees settle in Quebec says that Bissonnette’s name and photograph are familiar. It states that he is “known by several activists in Quebec City for his viewpoints that were pro-Le Pen and anti-feminist, as expressed in social media and at Université Laval” where Bissonnette is a student.
