NCTexan
Just reading the AP version of the story run by WRAL who went hard left after hooking up with NBC earlier this year. Over 1,100 words with the lead and much of the story centering on his time in the USMC. NOT ONE WORD regarding any of his racist statements or web postings. I guess this is why Obama is unsure of his motives here like all of the other cases.
Valin
The Baton Rouge shooter left a twisted trail on social mediaJazz ShawJuly 18, 2016Yesterday we began learning some of the background of the twisted individual who murdered three Baton Rouge law enforcement officers and wounded several others. The initial reports were rather thin, indicating that Gavin Long was a former Marine who was angry about police shootings of black suspects and was a fan of the shooter who ambushed police in Dallas. But as the media took a deeper look into his profile, they found that Long had left what NBC News is calling a long, twisted digital footprint behind him. He fancied himself a purveyor of life advice and self-empowerment, though how that vision fit in with his apparent social justice views is a mystery.(Snip)Those are interesting factoids in the life of someone who seems, at a minimum, to be a bit on the delusional side. I’m not sure who was signing up to have this guy as a life coach or nutritional advisor, but he was certainly prolific in his writing and video production work. And yet there’s much more to his story. The Daily Caller did some digging of their own and found that Long was a member of the Nation of Islam and was very clear in his attitude toward “peaceful protesting.” (NSFW language warning) (Snip) And now he’s dead, but he took several of our nation’s finest with him and shattered even more lives. So here’s the uncomfortable question which we should probably be asking today: how rare or unusual was Gavin Eugene Long? Obviously he’s not representative of the majority of Americans or the nation would have already collapsed into a bloody civil war. But given the protests in the streets and the hints coming from social media and cultural outlets, is he truly some one in a million aberration? For an example I’ll offer up this tweet from Ebony Magazine from over the weekend. (Snip)
Valin
I guess not all Black Lives Matter “I’m tired physically and emotionally. Disappointed in some family, friends, and officers for some reckless comments but hey what’s in your heart is in your heart. I still love you all because hate takes too much energy but I definitely won’t be looking at you the same. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me or my wife it was needed and much appreciated. I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me a threat. I’ve experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core. When people you know begin to question your integrity you realize they don’t really know you at all. Look at my actions they speak LOUD and CLEAR. Finally I personally want to send prayers out to everyone directly affected by this tragedy. These are trying times. Please don’t let hate infect your heart. This city MUST and WILL get better. I’m working in these streets, so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you.”
Draggingtree
7/18/2016 Baton Rouge Shooter a Nation of Islam Member Who Ranted About “Crackers” and Alton Sterling Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:18 am Surprise, surprise: A Youtube account operated by Gavin Eugene Long and discovered by The Daily Caller reveals key insight into what might have motivated the 29-year-old black man who killed three Baton Rouge police officers Sunday morning. Videos on Long’s account show that he was a former Nation of Islam member. He also ranted against “crackers” and made references to Alton Sterling, the black man killed by police in Baton Rouge on July 5. It’s “very hard to untangle the motivations” that propelled this guy to shoot and kill police officers. We may never know his true motivation. http://patterico.com/2016/07/18/baton-rouge-shooter-a-nation-of-islam-member-who-ranted-about-crackers-and-alton-sterling/
Geee
Obama: Police Can 'Make the Job of Being a Cop a Lot Safer' by Admitting Their Failures America's police will be safer when they admit they have a problem, Pres. Obama declared on Sunday at a bilateral event with the prime minister of Spain in Madrid. Fielding a question on Sunday, July 10, about the violence against police in Dallas, Texas last week, which left five officers dead, Obama said police officers will be safer once they acknowledge their failures: "There are legitimate issues that have been raised, and there’s data and evidence to back up the concerns that are being expressed by these protesters. "And if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and there’s an issue, then that, too, is going to contribute to real solutions. And, as I said yesterday, that is what’s going to ultimately help make the job of being a cop a lot safer. It is in the interest of police officers that their communities trust them and that the kind of rancor and suspicion that exists right now is alleviated." http://www.mrctv.org/blog/obama-police-can-make-job-being-cop-lot-safer-admitting-their-failures

Geee
OBAMA TO POLICE: CONFESS The Media Research Center’s Craig Bannister picks up President Obama’s telling remarks a week ago Sunday following a meeting with Spain’s Prime Minister Rajoy. The White House has posted the text of their remarks here. In the relevant exchange, President Obama toes the line of his friends in the Black Lives Matter movement and advises the police to confess to their alleged racist wrongdoing. The reporter ask Obamas: “[A]s you prepare yourself to travel to Dallas, how would you advise the Black Lives Matter activists to approach this very sensitive issue — situation?” Good question. Obama placed the Black Lives Matter crowd in the company of civil rights heroes of ages past and then counseled the police to own up to their alleged offenses: There are legitimate issues that have been raised, and there’s data and evidence to back up the concerns that are being expressed by these protesters. And if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and there’s an issue, then that, too, is going to contribute to real solutions. And, as I said yesterday, that is what’s going to ultimately help make the job of being a cop a lot safer.
