Conservatives Rejoice At Trump’s Pick Of Pence

Donald Trump’s hope that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence would help him win over skeptical conservatives looks to be already working.

 

Leaders of a number of conservative organizations — including some that have been hostile to Donald Trump and supportive of his rivals — are praising the selection of Pence.

 

“This is a great day for conservatism and great news for conservatives,” said Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union. “Governor Mike Pence is an excellent pick to be the Vice President.”

 

“He is a proven leader who has worked with grassroots conservatives to advance policies and solutions that strengthen our economy, our national defense, and our families,” Schlapp added. “His Reagan-esque approach, as a great communicator with the courage of his convictions, sends the signal to conservatives across America that Donald Trump is eager to bring Americans together to reject Hillary Clinton’s plans to continue President Obama’s radical agenda.”

Don’t Ever Forget That Mike Pence Threw Religious Liberty Under the Bus

I keep seeing writers on the Left and Right praising Mike Pence as a stalwart conservative. Have they forgotten the Battle of Indiana? The Weekly Standard’s Mark Hemingway hasn’t:

 

Recall that last year, Indiana passed a state religious freedom restoration act (RFRA), which was the state version of existing federal legislation that passed Congress and was signed into President Bill Clinton with overwhelming bipartisan support . . . Though the Indiana law is not in conflict with other LGBT protections, it was decried as an act of bigotry. Journalists started fishing for villains, settling on the religious owners of an Indiana pizza parlor who said they would not (hypothetically) want to cater a gay wedding. Companies such as Apple and Ebay, which have no problem doing business in bastions of enlightened attitudes on gays as Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, threatened to boycott Indiana. (Curiously, they have not also threatened to boycott the existing 21 states with RFRAs.)

A candidate whose concern for religious liberty was already suspect just selected a symbol of cultural defeat as his running mate. I’m not sure why Christian conservatives would cheer the choice.

Good! His decision making on the Freedom of Religion issue was enough to eliminate him as a "Liberty and Constitutional" candidate.

Good, considering this guy folded easier than Hillary’s wet sanitary napkin when it came to standing up for religious freedom, he would do nothing but embarrass and further harm Conservatism and the freedom and liberty we conservatives are fighting for.

Now if only Jeb, Rubio, Christie, and Huckabee would join the Dem party where they belong... we conservatives would have an easier path to victory.

Pence has joined the RINOs. He has capitulated to Commie Core by just "changing the name," and showed zero spine on the religious freedom bill. Sad. I used to have high hopes for him.

It's the best choice if Trump wants more votes. Isn't that the point? I think Pence is going to surprise a lot of people and flip naysayers/moderate Dems.

Pence is definitely on the Trump train. He is backing all of Trump's policies. Hannity not holding back. Questioning him on his tweet about Trumps Muslim ban. He answered it well. He speaks well. Indiana has a $2 billion surplus with him as governor and the unemployment rate is under 5%. So, he has that under his belt.
