WestVirginiaRebel
Washington Post: The director of the Secret Service knew that unflattering, private information about a congressman was circulating among agency staff members before it was leaked to the news media, contrary to an earlier statement made to federal investigators, according to two government officials briefed on the investigation. Director Joseph P. Clancy this week alerted investigators that he was revising his account, the officials said. He said he now remembers being told by a top deputy, a week before the information was published, that the agency had rejected Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) for a job as an agent, the officials said. Previously, Clancy had told investigators that he was unaware of the information about Chaffetz — or that members of his staff were sharing it internally in violation of federal privacy law — until he was informed April 1 that The Washington Post planned to publish an article about the matter, according to a government watchdog report. Investigators from the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general’s office plan to reinterview Clancy about his revised account, the officials said. ________ What did Clancy know, and when did he know it? Draggingtree
October 3, 2015 Remarkable recovery of memory by Secret Service chief in Chaffetz affair By Rick Moran Joseph Clancy, director of the Secret Service, has experienced a serendipitous recovery of his memory regarding when he first learned of the plot by several dozen agents and employees to smear Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who was heading up the investigation of the agency as chairman of the House Oversight Committee. Clancy first used the familiar administration gambit of claiming no prior knowledge of the scandal and only hearing about it when he read it in the Washington Post. But a remarkable feat of recovered memory occurred as Clancy now admits he knew of the "rumor" to leak Chaffetz's personal informnation before the story of the congressman's unsuccessful application to the Secret Service became public. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/10/remarkable_recovery_of_memory_by_secret_service_chief_in_chaffetz_affair.html
