Valin
The Hill: Jordain Carney September 24, 2015, 03:12 pm The Senate on Thursday rejected a short-term spending bill that would defund Planned Parenthood, thwarting the opening move by Republican leaders to avoid a government shutdown on Oct. 1. Senators voted 47-52 on ending debate on the short-term continuing resolution, well short of the 60 votes needed. The legislation would have funded the government through Dec. 11. The vote divided Republicans, with eight of them breaking ranks. Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Susan Collins (Maine), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Dean Heller (Nev.) Mark Kirk (Ill.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ben Sasse (Neb.) all voted against moving forward. Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) was the only Democrat to vote in favor. After the vote, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed a new short-term spending bill that would fund the government and Planned Parenthood. Valin
Can we get a real BUDGET now that we have both houses....? You are kidding, aren't you? The audacity of hope . . . Congress passes first budget in 6 years Tom Howell Jr. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 The GOP-led Congress Tuesday passed a full budget for the first time in years, laying out a road map for domestic spending cuts so deep that Democrats dared Republicans to follow through on them, predicting a swift voter backlash. If enacted, the cuts, combined with an improving economy, could produce a balanced budget within a decade. The budget cleared the Senate on a 51-48 vote Tuesday afternoon, after passing in the House last week. (Snip)
clearvision
Why are we doing a temporary funding measure then? I probably should know this stuff, but really don't think any of it means anything anymore....
NowhereMan1966
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. BTW, Planned Parenthood needs to be shut down using the RICO laws. They are murderers.
Valin
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. BTW, Planned Parenthood needs to be shut down using the RICO laws. They are murderers. 1. I agree, killing babies just because they exist, is a bad thing very very very bad thing. 2. The problem is, defining when the fetus becomes a human being. As far as I'm concerned Sperm Meets Egg..BANG You have a human being. That argument is a tough row to hoe. Not as tough as is was (say) 10 years ago, but still not an easy argument to win. That's the whole argument is that fetus a human being? If it is (as I strongly believe), you can't kill it. If it's not...pretty much do what you want. The good news is the technology is on our side, minds are slowly being changed.
