Draggingtree
: Ted Cruz Declares Reid Head of the GOP Senate – After Spat Over Defunding Planned Parenthood By: Candice Lanier (Diary) | September 23rd, 2015 at 07:58 PM Earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 58% introduced a resolution to temporarily fund the government, which Republican Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% equated with lack of leadership. Cruz said that in his estimation, McConnell is no longer the leader of the majority GOP congress. According to Cruz, “The position of Republican leadership boils down to this: They will support 100% of the priorities of Democrats.” He went on to say that, “the leader in the Senate is Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) 14% because Republican leadership has said nothing will pass without Reid ‘s support. Today, the leader in the House is Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 16%.” Though McConnell did move to temporarily block funding to Planned Parenthood, he obstructed Cruz’s goal of permanently defunding the controversial organization. Planned Parenthood has received a great deal of public scrutiny and is under investigation for a series of clandestine videos involving baby body parts. It is now a major part of the Senate budget talk
Draggingtree
Nancy and Joe on abortion September 23rd, 2015 Nancy and Joe on abortion? Anything but Catholic. by Fausta Rodriguez Wertz | September 23rd, 2015 ReadabilityLiberal Democrats seem to reconcile their putative adherence to the Catholic Church in curious ways. For instance, Nancy Pelosi insists that “My family is very pro-life,” while asserting, “I think everyone grants everyone their position,” she said. “The church has their position, and we have ours, which is that a woman has free will given to her by God.” That earned her this NYT headline: In Pelosi, Strong Catholic Faith and Abortion Rights Coexist. Jennifer Steinhauer, the author of that article, prior to quoting Nancy, claims that For Ms. Pelosi, the notion of disagreeing with other Catholics about abortion has not weighed on her sense of faith. Or, as Thomas Williams puts it, For the House Minority Leader, Steinhauersept [sic] wrote, “the issue of abortion rights has always been ancillary to her unwavering faith and deep approbation for generations of popes.” If by “ancillary,” Steinhauersept [sic] means “in open contradiction to,” then perhaps she has a point. Likewise, Joe Biden told a leading liberal Catholic publication that determining when life begins is “above my pay grade”. At leastBiden agreed that the Catholic faith teaches that “abortion is always wrong.” Lest you believe that Williams and George are too harsh on Pelosi and Biden, read what the Catechism of the Catholic Church has to say: http://datechguyblog.com/2015/09/23/nancy-and-joe-on-abortion/
