As for manufacturing jobs a quick story.

in 1997 I started working at Donaldson's Co. I was processing around 3,000 ft of filter media a shift, in 2010 they moved the machines down to Dixon Ill. my buddy Dan and I were processing around 30,000ft a shift. Do the math! The days of large numbers of people working in factories making a good living...They're rapidly going away. A strong back and a weak mind no longer cut it.

Being an employer for many years, I can say - the machines always show up for work - the operators, not so muchrolleyes.gif

@Geee

Exactly!

It drives me nuts when I hear all these politicians loudly proclaim I'll bring back manufacturing jobs. Like there is going to be all these wonderful real well paying jobs...ain't gonna happen....wonderful real well paying jobs.

Let me just add as someone who spent his working life on the factory floor, these jobs are not all that great. What do you want to do when you grow up jimmy? Its always been my dream to run a drop forge! Riiight. At best they are boring, mind numbingly boring, at worse they are dangerous...as in a crane breaks and 3 tons of steel rods fall on a guy.
