Valin
Life News: Steven Ertelt Sep 4, 2015 Next week, a House committee will hold its first hearing investigating Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted babies and their body parts. This is the first hearing in Congress’ multi-committee investigation of the abortion business after a series of nine videos exposed how it is potentially illegally selling aborted babies and profiting from the sales. LifeNews.com has learned that two abortion survivors will headline the House Judiciary Committee meeting and exposes the horrors of the abortion industry from their first-hand experience. On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold its first hearing in a series of hearings titled, “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider.” The hearings will examine the abortion practices of Planned Parenthood, which has been the subject of an ongoing House Judiciary Committee investigation into the organization’s practices. When the panel meets, the will hear from abortion survivors Melissa Ohden and Gianna Jessen. Valin
Rude Dem Reps Call Pro-life Witness 'Remarkably Ignorant' and 'Old' at Planned Parenthood HearingCortney O'Brien Sep 09, 2015 The Center for Medical Progress's shocking video investigation into Planned Parenthood has exposed the latter's disturbing pro-abortion agenda and has demanded action from Congress. The Senate Judiciary Committee is trying to come up with some answers, launching its own probe into the controversial organization and holding its first hearing on Planned Parenthood Wednesday morning: “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation's Largest Abortion Provider." While the list of grievances against Planned Parenthood may seem endless, specifically at today's hearing the panelists focused on late-term abortion, the harvesting of fetal organs and a history of the nation's abortion laws. Emotions at today's hearing were especially high, because two of the witnesses who took the stand were actual survivors of failed abortions. (Snip) The committee, having heard the witnesses’ testimonies, proceeded to ask them questions about the Planned Parenthood investigation. A few testy exchanges occurred, including when Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) called Right to Life General Counsel James Bopp, Jr. "remarkably ignorant" for not being aware of the string of misleading anti-abortion efforts in the past. Rep. Cohen also offended Mr. Bopp, calling him "old" and saying he must not have "remembered" when he accidentally answered a question addressed to another witness. After sufficiently embarrassing him, both Nadler and Cohen made their exits. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) also said Mr. Bopp's testimony was "worthless" because he had not seen the unedited versions of the CMP videos. When asked if Johnson himself had seen the videos, edited or unedited, he admitted, "No, I have not." Another heated exchange arose between Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) asked Ms. Priscilla J. Smith, Director and Senior Fellow, Program for the Study of Reproductive Justice, Information Society Project, Yale Law School, if a partial-birth abortion was a 'humane' way to end a life. She answered "yes," for a pre-viable fetus it is. Later in the hearing, Smith also defended Planned Parenthood as a "beloved" institution. Valin
Senate eyeing vote on 20-week abortion ban Peter Sullivan 09/10/15 The Senate could vote this month on a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, amid a continued firestorm over Planned Parenthood funding. "There's going to be a number of things,” Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters Thursday. “Senator McConnell's already talked about some pro-life legislation he'll be filing for cloture on at the end of next week." Asked whether the 20-week abortion ban would be moved, Cornyn said, "That's certainly one of them, but it's not limited to that.” "There's a plan we're working on and it's in progress,” he added. A vote this month on the 20-week abortion ban bill could help divert anti-abortion energy away from a riskier government funding fight over Planned Parenthood. McConnell has vowed he will avoid a government shutdown and said the conservative push to defund Planned Parenthood must wait until 2017 when a new president occupies the White House. The 20-week abortion ban bill has already passed the House. It was introduced in the Senate in June by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a presidential candidate. The bill is not expected to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to move forward.
