After months of waiting for something that Donald Trump says to come back and bite him, surely no one is foolish enough to think that his talk about raising taxes is going to cause his poll numbers to plummet. The current Republican frontrunner has been all over the map about taxes throughout his public life. Even during just the last few months as he began his presidential candidacy, Trump has threatened to tax companies that outsource jobs or merge with foreign firms to lower their rates. He flirted with the flat tax but then reversed course and declared his allegiance to progressive taxation. He doubled down on that by echoing the rhetoric of the Obama administration and liberal Democrats when he targeted hedge fund managers for a tax hike via carried interest.
