Britain-to-reopen-embassy-in-Tehran-after-four-years.htmlUK Telegraph:

Britain’s embassy in Tehran will reopen this weekend when Philip Hammond is due to become the first Foreign Secretary to visit Iran for almost 12 years.

Mr Hammond is expected to raise a new Union Flag almost four years after the old one was burnt by a pro-regime mob, which stormed and ransacked the mission in November 2011. That incident forced the evacuation of all British diplomats from Tehran, leading the Foreign Office to retaliate by ordering Iran to close its embassy in London.

Yet the two countries are now on the verge of resuming full diplomatic relations. Mr Hammond will be only the second Foreign Secretary to go to Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He is expected to travel with a business delegation representing an array of companies, including Royal Dutch Shell. A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Foreign Secretary will be visiting Tehran over the coming days.”Scissors-32x32.png
