Asymmetrical politics: Republicans act like an unruly mob, Democrats like a regimented army

As the presidential campaign heats up, and heading into the first debate among the 16 declared Republican candidates, there is an asymmetry between the two political parties.

Republican voters have been seething with discontent at their party's officeholders and have not become enchanted with any one of 15 more or less conventional politicians who are running. Democratic voters support their officeholders with lockstep loyalty and seem untroubled by the serious flaws of their party's clear frontrunner.

This asymmetry helps explain some otherwise puzzling things. One is why polls have continued for several years to show the Republican party being disliked more than the Democratic party, even as both parties get roughly the same number of votes. The reason is that few Democrats express negative feelings about their own party, whereas many Republicans do.Scissors-32x32.png

You want an an unruly mob? I've got your unruly mob

The very definition of eating your ownrolleyes.gif

As I keep saying "There Are A Lot Of Ignorant People Out There." Ignorance is an equal opportunity trait. One that try as I might, I often fall into.

I keep remembering what the founder/framers thought about The Mob....it wasn't positive.
