Draggingtree
RedState: Abortion Barbie Goes Full HarridanBy: Leon H. Wolf (Diary) | August 13th, 2014 at 10:00 AM Wendy Davis has her weaknesses as a political candidate but one thing she has shown truly exceptional skill at throughout her life is bilking gullible liberals out of their money – beginning with her ex-husband and ending with Democrat donors across the country. As a result she has a ton of money to throw around against Greg Abbot, but not a lot of useful stuff to do with it. As a consequence she is blanketing the Texas airwaves with an attack ad that strikes just the right balance of tone between ominous, hectoring, and dishonesty. Let’s unpack the factual claims of this article a little bit. The actual text of the opinion can be found here, and Abbott’s dissent can be found here. Draggingtree
Yes, People Believe Abortion Is MurderConservatives don’t just oppose abortion and other bad consequences of the sexual revolution because they’re sexually repressed. By Rachel Lu AUGUST 12, 2014 Writing at Mother Jones, Kevin Drum poses a great question. Actually, he has a couple of questions: Do anti-abortion activists really think abortion is murder? Or is their opposition merely an expression of their broad discomfort with modern sexual and gender mores? I appreciate Drum’s forthrightness. A lot of liberals wonder why pro-lifers rally and lobby and stand in the rain outside abortion clinics: can it really be that they care about babies? No, pro-lifers probably do these things because they have old-fashioned views about sex. They know that abortion has enabled modern women to lead a “sexually liberated” lifestyle. And they want to stop it because they do, in fact, want to see wayward women “punished with a baby.” Drumroll, PleaseOkay, then. Are you ready for this, Mother Jones readers? I’m going to answer the question. Yes. Pro-lifers really believe that abortion is murder, i.e., the unjust killing of an innocent human being. http://thefederalist.com/2014/08/12/yes-people-believe-abortion-is-murder/
Draggingtree
Lessons from the Wendy Davis DisasterBy ROD DREHER • October 28, 2014, 10:01 AM The image above is from a protest against conservative Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who was accused by those liberal critics of focusing on abortion-related issues instead of the economy. Funnily enough, the same slogan could be used against Wendy Davis, the failing Democratic candidate for Texas governor, who, according to Michael Brendan Dougherty, is learning that you can’t build a successful political campaign around social issues. Excerpt: Davis was an obscurity in the Democratic Party before her 2013 filibuster of abortion regulations that threatened Texas clinics with closure. Fascination with her shoes exceeded that normally given to the Roman Pontiff‘s footwear. The money poured in. Here was a national figure for the moment, a Joan of Arc ready to win the War on Women. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/lessons-from-the-wendy-davis-disaster/
