Hamas continued Thursday to issue threats to resume attacks on Israel unless its demands for a long-term cease-fire are met.

The threats came as thousands of Palestinians participated in pro-Hamas rallies in the Gaza Strip.

The rallies began after noon prayers when thousands of Palestinians took to the streets chanting slogans in support of Hamas. Carrying Hamas’s green flags, the demonstrators also called on the Palestinian groups to launch rockets at Tel Aviv.

Hamas also called for similar rallies in the West Bank following Friday prayers.

Senior political source: Israel will respond to rocket fire
With talks underway in Gaza, Hamas threatens to renew rocket fire if demands not met, Israel vows to hit hard.

A senior political source said that Israel will "respond with strength" should Hamas make good on its promise to renew rocket fire as soon as soon as the ceasefire end 8 am Friday morning.

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon have given the IDF directives for any scenario," the senior source said.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman accused Hamas of coercion on Thursday, after the organization's official denied reports of an extension to the ceasefire.

Palestinians still weighing ceasefire extension

Palestinian negotiators in Cairo are still mulling an extension of a ceasefire with Israel set to expire in hours on Friday, a member of the delegation says, as Israel said rockets from Gaza landed in its territory.

Egyptian mediators asked the Palestinians during a long overnight meeting to extend the 72-hour ceasefire, and they will reach a decision before it expires at 0500 GMT, the delegation member tells AFP.

Egypt asked us for a 72-hour extension, we will meet now to decide before 8:00 am (0500 GMT), the official says.

Israeli envoy to UN calls on Ban Ki-Moon, Security Council to condemn Hamas

WASHINGTON — Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor called today on the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and the UN Security Council to condemn Hamas in light of its violation of yet another ceasefire and designate Hamas as a terrorist organization.

“It is time for the United Nations and its agencies to finally place the blame where it belongs – on Hamas,” Prosor writes in a letter that he delivered to Security Council officials and to the UN Secretary General earlier. “To be clear, Hamas started this conflict, Hamas is responsible for the humanitarian tragedy, and Hamas must be held accountable.”

Prosor calls on both Ban and the Security Council to “immediately and unequivocally” condemn Hamas “in the strongest possible terms for violating the ceasefire”; support Israel’s right to defend its citizens; demand the demilitarization of Gaza and designate Hamas as a terrorist organization.
