SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) — United Nations officials are pushing for many of the Central Americans fleeing to the U.S. to be treated as refugees displaced by armed conflict, a designation meant to increase pressure on the United States and Mexico to accept tens of thousands of people currently ineligible for asylum.

 

Officials with the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees say they hope to see a regional agreement on that status Thursday when migration and interior department representatives from the U.S., Mexico, and Central America meet in Nicaragua. The group will discuss updating a 30-year-old declaration regarding the obligations nations have to aid refugees.

 

While such a resolution would lack any legal weight in the United States, the agency said it believes "the U.S. and Mexico should recognize that this is a refugee situation, which implies that they shouldn't be automatically sent to their home countries but rather receive international protection."

Illegal Unaccompanied Minors Being Held For Placement in U.S. Admit to Engaging in Torture and Murder

 

Despite Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson vowing to "stem the tide" of unaccompanied illegal minors across the southern border with Mexico, thousands more are expected to enter the United States by the end of the year. With the system being overwhelmed, Border Patrol agents are concerned about minors who have admitted to being MS-13 members, a brutal street gang from El Salvador that has been successful in infiltrating American communities. Agents are also concerned about minors who have committed acts like torture and murder in their home countries before heading north to the United States.

 

"We have six minors in Nogales who have admitted to killing and doing grievous bodily injuries. One admitted to killing as young as eight years old," an agent tells Townhall anonymously for fear of losing his job for speaking out. "They are being held for placement in the U.S."

The crisis on the border is no longer in the shadows. In broad daylight on Monday planes from Texas landed in San Diego and were met by buses, all transporting more illegal immigrants into the United States. It’s certainly a strange sight to watch the federal government facilitate illegal immigration into the United States at such a grand scale.

 

Meanwhile, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco “blocked Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s policy of denying driver’s licenses to young immigrants who have gotten work permits and avoided deportation under an Obama administration policy.

 

In a statement regarding the Ninth Circuit ruling, Brewer noted that the DACA program (Deferred Action for Child Arrivals) has not only led to the current crisis on the border but that the Ninth Circuit effectively granted the Obama administration power to write law without Congress.

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” President Barack Obama’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, once infamously stated. He never bothered to spell out the unspoken corollary to that appalling statement: And if there is no serious crisis available, manufacture one.

 

The American left has followed that pattern for generations. The left destroyed the nuclear family by incentivizing women to give birth out of wedlock. When out-of-wedlock births exploded, they used that as an excuse to elevate federal spending, elevate taxes and disestablish marriage between a man and a woman as a moral standard. The left crafted a health care crisis by instituting price and wage controls that led to employer-sponsored insurance, and then undercut that insurance with excessive regulation and easy lawsuits. They used elevating costs as an excuse to push Obamacare and elevate taxes

 

Now, the left, under Obama, has crafted the mother of all crises: an influx of tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing America’s southern border. Some of these minors carry disease. Virtually all carry wounds, either physical or psychological, from their criminal coyote guides. Coburn: 'For $8M, We Can Put them All on a First-Class Seat Back to Their Homes'

 

(CNSNews.com) - On the same day President Obama asked Congress for $3.7 billion dollars to deal with the crisis at the Southwest border, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) called it "the wrong approach."

 

"Look, for $8 million, we can put them all on a first-class seat back to their homes. That's $8 million. That's a first-class seat, one way, to each of their homes," Coburn told CNN's "Crossfire" on Tuesday.

 

"That's $60,000 per child that we're going to spend, in emergency money. Can we -- first of all, that shows just how incompetent we -- we can't do that for $3(000) or $4,000 per child? That's No. 1.

The escalating mess at Murietta and the general bankruptcy of President Obama’s “immigration policy” — the scare-quotes necessitated by its haphazard and improvised nature, so that it isn’t actually a policy at all — isn’t something I’ve said a lot about, because the disaster is so obvious that everyone sees it without me feeling any need to point it out. Whatever there may be left to say about this catastrophic situation,Adriana Cohen says it pretty well:

 

The massive crisis of tens of thousands of illegal children and hundreds of thousands of illegal adults flooding over our borders is, no surprise, not President Obama’s fault. It may have been entirely preventable, and certainly was highly predictable. But as usual, six years after he took office, the blame belongs elsewhere.

Some “Children” Illegally Entering U.S. Are Gang Members, Killers

Last month I told you that Border Patrol agents report being told to let in “children” with gang tattoos. I said then: “Obama is so invested in the idea of allowing illegals into the country that he really doesn’t care if any of them are gang members or even footsoldiers for the cartels.” I added:

 

[T]he cartels know the U.S. Government is doing this. So if they can find willing 16- or 17-year-old footsoldiers — and they can — the cartels can deliver those footsoldiers across the border, with the assistance of the U.S. Government.

 

I have absolutely no doubt that this is happening. Drug cartels are using Obama’s policies to deliver footsoldiers into our country.

Child Border Surge Includes Mara Salvatrucha Ganga Elements

 

Immigration: Border Patrol sources say some of the thousands of "children" flowing across the Texas frontier are Mara Salvatrucha's gangster enforcers. It figures: No one benefits more from Obama's open-door policies.

 

At the Murrieta town hall meeting last week, hundreds of illegals in Mexican soccer jerseys protesting the town's refusal to take busloads of illegal immigrants had an odd man among them, wearing a suit with a sign around his neck saying he was an illegal.

 

"I asked him why he didn't have papers and he said he didn't need them because he brought people across without papers. He was there to see if anyone needed his services," recalled Murrieta resident Amanda Mitchell, who spoke with IBD at Murrieta's Border Patrol camp vigil Sunday. "So you're a coyote, a human trafficker!" she replied. After that, she said, he refused to talk.

 

The incident is but one sign of the criminal element among the 52,000 unaccompanied children who've flooded our unpoliced Texas border amid teary media reports about their hard plight back in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. But behind the glurge is the hard reality that among these illegals there are gangs that profit from this misery. And they are a threat to the U.S.

 

Illegal immigrants pay each smuggler $7,000 a head to cross over. The more who cross, the more who profit.
