The 1984 abduction and shooting death of letter carrier Debora Sue Schatz sent shockwaves throughout the Bayou City. Now 30 years later, her killer David Port is scheduled to be released because of an obscure law that was later abolished. The jury in state District Court also ordered the youth, David Port, 18 years old, to pay a $10,000 fine for his conviction in the June 7 slaying of Debora Sue Schatz, 23. The trial of Mr. Port was transferred from Houston because of publicity after his father and stepmother, Bernard and Odette Port, were jailed for contempt of court last fall.
