The media coordinator for Tripoli Security Directorate, Essam Naas, confirmed the shooting to the Libya Herald. He said Darole was killed near Mekmdas market in central Sirte after Isha prayers. Yes, the CIA Flew U-2 Spy Planes From Aircraft Carriers Big-wing spy planes once operated from Americas flattopsbut not easily Steve Weintz On May 1, 1960, the Soviet Union shot down a CIA U-2 spy plane and captured its pilot, Francis Gary Powers. It was an international crisis for Americas intelligence agencies. A planned summit between Pres. Dwight Eisenhower and Premier Nikita Khrushchev was scuttled, much to Eisenhowers embarrassment and to the fury of the Pakistanis, from whose territory the flight had been launched. First flown in 1957, the 63-foot-long, jet-powered U-2capable of flying as high as 70,000 feetis still used by the U.S. Air Force. But after the Powers incident, basing the plane in foreign countries became problematic. Their mere presence caused heartburn in diplomatic circles. Time-sensitive targets could be lost to prolonged negotiations over basing rights. One solution was to put the U-2, nicknamed Dragon Lady, on aircraft carriers. After all, as the U.S. Navy often puts it, an aircraft carrier is four acres of sovereign American territory anywhere in the world it sails. The target for the U-2G was the French nuclear test site, situated at Mururoa Atoll in the middle of the South Pacific, well out of the range of a land-based U-2. Consequently, in May 64 a U-2G operating from the USS Ranger photographed Mururoa Atoll and until 1968 three of the CIAs fleet of U-2s and a number of pilots were always carrier capable, although few actual sorties were ever flown. The left worries about how to eliminate gender roles from dating situations. It’s not possible to have a completely gender neutral date. Gender, our cultural and personal notions of how people should act based on their biological sex, influences too many aspects of our behavior to be completely neutralized. In the dating context, gender roles provide an outline of how things “should” work. But in a day and age where equality is the expectation, why stick to a rigid outline based on your genitalia? (Snip) You ever wonder if there is a corollary to Rush Limbaugh’s Undeniable Truth of Life #24, something to the effect that gamma males embrace feminism because they can never achieve the normal standard of manhood? Is the obsession with “gender” is a thinly veiled assault against the masculine ideal by men who are incapable of achieving it, and women who resent the lack of interest displayed to them by alpha males?
