Russian city hit by suicide bombing for second straight day

12/30/13

For the second time in as many days, an explosion rocked the Russian city of Volgograd Monday morning. Russian officials say a suicide bomber blew himself up on a trolleybus, killing at least 14 people and wounding nearly 30 others. The latest attack came one day after at least 17 people died in a suicide bombing at the city's central rail station.

The explosion ripped away much of the bus's exterior and broke windows in nearby buildings. The BBC reported that the explosion took place near a market in the city's Dzerzhinsky district. It virtually paralyzed public transport in the city, forcing many residents to walk long distances to get to work.

Suspect in Volgograd train station bombing: Allah urges us to fight unbelievers

The official suspect in the train station suicide bombing in Volgograd was a former paramedic who converted to Islam, who wanted to follow Allahs will and fight the Christian kafirs (believers). In a Youtube video response to his parents plea for him to come back home from those who had brainwashed him, one of his statements were:

Why should we follow those Christian commandments, when Allah, may he be glorified, urges us to fight those kafirs [unbelievers].

Why shouldnt we leave their children orphaned?

What Provoked the Bombings In Volgograd, Russia?

Melik Kaylan

The recent bombings in the Russian city of Volgograd point to the countrys unending struggle with Islamic groups in the nearby Caucasus region, in Chechnya, Daghestan, Ingushetia and environs. One can make sense of this struggle from two separate angles: as an extension of international jihad or as a struggle by indigenous peoples against Russian imperialism since the 19th century. The upcoming winter Olympics, scheduled to take place in Sochi in the Caucasus, serves as a provocation for those who resent Russian rule in the area. The Kremlin would like to show that Russia in general and its Muslim zones in particular are part of a stable, indivisible whole. The Olympics offer an opportunity to demonstrate that. For insurgents in the Caucasus, its an opportunity to demonstrate the reverse.
