Babette Maxwell, founder of Military Spouse magazine, has called out Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a disabled Vietnam veteran, for voting on the budget deal, which slashes pensions for military personnel.

"Shockingly, a disabled veteran took money away from disabled veterans. He's one of us," Maxwell told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It's a mass breach of promise from our congressmen who gave us their word that they would grandfather in our benefits for our active-duty retirees and the past retirees," Maxwell said.

The Senate passed the bipartisan budget Wednesday.

Maxwell said the cuts affect not only disabled veterans but also benefits for spouses.

"So, not only have they targeted our disabled, they've targeted our deceased," she said.

"As to why [lawmakers] feel like this is the will of the people, I have no idea. It most certainly is not the will of the people."

"I can't imagine a nation that would support taking away earned benefits from those who have given of their life and of their limb."

Bad deal all around?

Congress Still Refuses to Pay Our Military Veterans

Congress Has Slashed Veteran’s Pensions to Save Money; Why Not Theirs Too?

By Jerry McConnell (Bio and Archives) Thursday, February 6, 2014

Daily Sanity is an online publication of Conservative-Daily.com. The article “Congress Still Refuses to Pay Our Military Veterans” has been authored by Joe Otto and posted online on February 03, 2014. Portions of that article are presented here in the following column and commented on.

I am not a personal friend of Joe Otto, but after reading his article, mentioned above, I have become a great admirer of his style and patriotism. His loyalty to the United States and to its military branches is another reason for my praise for him. I hope he understands that I have no intention of co-opting his writing or trying to upstage him in any way.

His title, “Congress Still Refuses to Pay Our Military Veterans” was eye catching during my morning perusal of the news for the day; after of course, the Super Bowl run-down Scissors-32x32.png

But in addition to the game, Mr. Otto reminds us that our military withstands some severe travails and sacrifices which can be permanently devastating. The federal government does not dole out pension funds on a case by case basis, giving excessive amounts to Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/60982
