Draggingtree
Human Events: Israel Brings US Into Syria Fray By: Robert Maginnis 2/5/2013 05:10 AM Last week Israeli jet fighters destroyed two critical targets, a Syrian convoy loaded with sophisticated weapons intended for the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah and an unconventional weapons facility near Damascus. That attack is a tipping point in the 22 month long civil war which now requires a more direct U.S. role. The U.S. has vital national interests in the Syrian civil war such as delivering a strategic set-back to Iran – Syria’s chief ally and our nemesis, cutting off Hezbollah from Iran’s supply lines, stopping the proliferation of Syria’s unconventional weapons, containing the violence to Syria, and stopping the needless killing that has already claimed 60,000 lives. We are also interested in leveraging the future Syrian government and protecting our best ally, Israel. Until now the U.S. has remained on the sidelines
Draggingtree
Israel did no more than enforce the Security Council's own resolutions Israel Enforces UN Security Council Resolutions Against Hezbollah Joseph A. Klein (Bio and Archives) Tuesday, February 5, 2013 Binding United Nations Security Council resolutions over the last decade, including Resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1701 (2006), have called for the disbanding and disarming of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias in Lebanon, including in particular the disarming of the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah. The edict has gone unheeded. These same resolutions also directed all member states to prevent the shipment of any weapons to such groups, an arms embargo which has also gone unheeded In fact, since Security Council Resolution 1701 passed in 2006 and ended the hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah that the resolution said were started by Hezbollah, Israel has stood by and watched the re-arming of Hezbollah by Iran with the assistance of Syria. Hezbollah is now believed by Israeli Defense Force officials to have some 60,000 rockets and missiles - 10 times what it had in the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Israel’s military operation was surgical and limited in scope http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/52895
