Draggingtree Posted January 12, 2013 Share Posted January 12, 2013 Old Fashioned Sauerkraut 8 slices bacon, chopped 2 pounds sauerkraut 1 large head cabbage (or two small heads) 2 1/2 cups chopped onions 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter 2 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon black pepper Cook Time 4 to 5 hours (low) or 1 to 3 hours (high) 1. Heat skillet over medium heat until hot and stir in bacon until crisp. Remove skillet from heat and set aside. (Do not drain bacon fat) 2. Place sauerkraut, cabbage, onion, butter, sugar, salt, pepper in 412 quart crock-pot slow cooker. Pour bacon, and bacon fat over sauerkraut mixture. Cover; cook on Low 4 to 5 hours or on High 1 to 3 hours.
