Hugh Hewitt: The milk carton Republicans

A Comment from Lucianne

I believe that the reason our Republicans won´t publish anything to get behind is because they do not know what they want to get behind. There is a difference between patriots - those who concerned with defending our country´s institutions - and politicians - those who are concerned with getting re-elected. Setting aside the Socialists(et.al.), the vast majority of our government ´leaders´ are politicians. They are very wary of making any statements that might come back to haunt their re-election efforts. They are also looking at the recent election, noticing the numbers of the dependant/expectant class, and trying to figure out how far they can lean toward accomodating that vote without jeopardizing too many of the votes they already count on.

None of this is conducive to taking a stand and debating its merits. They prefer to try to ride Obama´s coat tails, prepared to jump off if they need to, claiming that they have been standing on their own two feet the whole time, it´s just that no one noticed because they can´t get decent press coverage.

We Await our Caesar

By Tom Hoffman

Civilized cultures are mortal; they have a predetermined life span just like an organism. There are numerous examples from antiquity whose skeletal remains are still with us. Each example represents a unique metaphysical enterprise that has expired. We can only imagine what the lives of the peoples were like and wonder at the remnants of the once vibrant cityscapes. The civilization into which we were all born, which has shaped our world view, was itself born on European soil around the turn of the first millennium. snip

We now wait for our Caesar. With the inevitable continuation of the current rate of corruption and decay it is only a matter of time before the groundwork is complete and our Caesar takes center stage. As our government continues to purge its ranks of all strong and noble men in favor the weak and decadent in order to pillage the treasury at will, it unwittingly clears the deck of all worthy opposition to a ruthless dictator. This dictator, as did Caesar, will usher in the final end to Western Civilization. He will be followed by others increasingly brutish and cruel as was Caesar. From bondage to spiritual faith;

From spiritual faith to great courage;

From courage to liberty;

From liberty to abundance;

From abundance to complacency;

From complacency to apathy;

From apathy to dependence;

From dependence back into bondage.

Guess where we are at in this cycle.............

Violent Rhetoric Flourishing For Debt Ceiling Debate

Stephen Kruiser

1/15/13

“GOP holding U.S. economy hostage on debt”

This, from the same people who blamed a picture of a target in a political ad for a mass murder.

(Snip)

Of course, the Democrats will forever be aided by the MSM lap dogs who do their bidding when it comes to false narrative writing. This one is basically parroting the president. That doesn’t mean it is impossible to counter. But it will take leadership who is willing shout “Oh, HELL no!” every time they’re painted as evil or violent.

The “hostage” and “gun to head” rhetoric was used successfully during the last debt ceiling debate, essentially forcing the GOP to blink while only negotiating with itself. We’re far past the time when someone, anyone, in charge needs to reject the premise and refuse to engage anyone who keeps repeating the lines from the script.

7 Reasons Conservatives Don't Trust the Republican Establishment

John Hawkins

1/16/13

Just as moderates are completely unrepresented in a Democratic Party that's dominated by liberals, movement conservatives often don't feel represented by the Republican Party. At first glance, this seems rather odd since most Republicans in Congress are conservative. However, it's a natural reaction to the Republican establishment that has its hands welded to many of the GOP's levers of power. The Republican Party may be mostly conservative, but there are a multitude of reasons that you can't trust the establishment Republicans as far as you can throw them.

(Snip)

2) They always prefer moderates to conservatives.It should tell you something when the GOP establishment always, always, ALWAYS prefers the least conservative candidate. It backed Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey, David Dewhurst over Ted Cruz, Bob Bennett over Mike Lee, Trey Grayson over Rand Paul and Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio. Our two top "leaders" in the Senate, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn, both endorsed Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio, a guy who is now being touted as one of the frontrunners for the presidency in 2016. When the best and brightest of the GOP in the Senate were almost universally opposed by the GOP establishment, what message does it send to the base? It sure as hell ain't "You can trust us" or "We're on your side." The real message is, "We're so frightened by our own base that we'd rather back future Democrats like Charlie Crist and Arlen Specter than movement conservatives."

6) Where's the urgency? Where's the fight? Did you ever notice that both John McCain and Mitt Romney ran far nastier and more vicious campaigns against their Republican primary opponents than they did against Barack Obama? Conservatives, the establishment Republicans will fight tooth and nail, but when they're up against Democrats, they turn into pussycats. Democrats don't have any qualms about trying to eviscerate Republicans, but the GOP establishment keeps acting like it’s going to win some kind of sportsmanship award for putting out forgettable lines of attack that pass through the mind like prunes pass through the body. Meanwhile, outside of the Beltway, guns, gold and survival seeds are flying off the shelves and many Americans are convinced for good reason that this country is headed toward an economic collapse driven by our unsustainable debt within the next decade or two. While that's happening, Barack Obama is talking about overruling Congress with executive orders and minting trillion dollar platinum coins. Yet, if you listen to the Republican establishment, you'd think all is well and it is just business as usual. We don't need screaming or rants about Hitler, but it would be nice to get the idea that the establishment Republicans aren’t content to sit on the deck of the sinking Titanic, watching the ship go down while they ask people running by if they'd like to play a game of shuffleboard while they’re waiting.

Conservatives Underperform Our Issues

The political right communicates wrong(ly).

Quin Hillyer

1.23.13

The depressing spectacle of Barack Obama inaugurating a second term should not obscure this truth: Conservatives win on issues. They lose in elections because they don’t know how to frame the choices, even on those many issues on which the majority of the public is in their corner.

(Snip)

Today, unfortunately, conservatives seem to have lost the knack to talk specifics without lapsing into incomprehensible legis-speak. They talk of “sequesters” and “premium support” and “out years” and “chained CPI.” Or, perhaps worse, they just repeat the vague mantra that America needs to “cut” spending and balance its budget. They are either too lost in the weeds or too up in the clouds.

(Snip)

It remains a travesty that conservatives in elections so frequently under-perform the conservative polling advantages on hosts of issues. The losses result not just from poor communicating, but from a series of factors that includes poor strategy, poor tactics, weak legislating, insufficient technological prowess, and insufficient attention to face-to-face, neighbor-to-neighbor campaigning. But poor communicating heads the list, and it ought to be the easiest to fix.
