Experts: Team Obama Should Root for Hurricane Sandy to Interrupt Election

It’s come to this:

It’s been called “snowicane” and “worse than the perfect storm,” and it could knock out power in the mid-Atlantic through Election Day.

Hurricane Sandy hasn’t even made it past the Bahamas yet, but Sandy, or any natural disaster around Election Day, could wreak extreme havoc on the election, experts say.

Political scientists have long studied the effects of rain and inclement weather on voter turnout and, not surprisingly, have found many people would rather stay at home than brave the weather. But more extreme storms or natural disasters that affect an entire state or region could turn a mild inconvenience into a huge mess.

That’s because there are few federal election procedure laws, Robert Pastor, co-director of the Center for Democracy and Election Management says. Election process is generally left up to state or local governments, who Pastor says are “least capable of handling a statewide or regional disaster.”

Most states have contingency plans in case a state of emergency is declared on Election Day. In Virginia, which could be hit hard by Sandy, Governor Bob McDonnell can postpone the election for up to 14 days, leading to all sorts of logistical issues.

If, for instance, the election came down to a late-voting Virginia “there’d probably be an outlandish intervention of Super PAC money as well as regular campaign spending,” says John Hudak, a governance studies fellow at Brookings. “It would be quite the carnival . . . you’d have a very serious constitutional situation occurring.”

It’d also represent a field day for lawyers. Congress has the power to formally protest Electoral College votes from states they feel are tainted, as long as one member from each house agrees to bring it to a vote. If a majority of both houses vote to reject the votes from a certain state, they are thrown out.

“If you have a situation where [a] state has delayed its voting and that one had an impact on the outcome, we’d see a movement to reconsider those votes,” he says. For the sake of sanity, let’s hope it doesn’t happen.” Scissors-32x32.png

Harris County shatters records for early voting

By Mike Morris | Friday, October 26, 2012 | Updated: Saturday, October 27, 2012 12:30am

Early voting is on a record pace in Harris County and in many other counties in the region and state.

After five days of open polls, in-person and mail ballots have topped 310,000 in the county, a record tally that far outstrips the early turnout from 2008, itself a record year. Through Thursday, the most recent data available, the state's 15 largest counties reported nearly 1.2 million votes had been cast, a 6.8 percent increase over the same period in 2008.Scissors-32x32.png

Early voting up statewide, but lagging in Travis County

By Ciara O'Rourke and Farzad Mashhood

American-Statesman Staff

SAN MARCOS —

A deep ballot might be to blame for sluggish early voting, according to a Travis County election official. The county’s turnout thus far is down 33 percent compared to the 2008 election, even while other counties around the state are having record or near-record turnouts.

Among the state’s 15 largest counties, about 1.2 million Texans cast ballots in the first four days of early voting – almost 14 percent of registered voters and about half a percentage point higher than at the same point in the 2008 elections.

Travis County ranked 12th among those 15 counties, with almost 12 percent of its nearly 635,000 registered voters having cast a ballot. During the first four days of early voting in 2008, that figure was nearly 18 percent. Scissors-32x32.png

Ugh. Indoctrinated lib-kids sing about how horrible the world will be if we don’t reelect Obama

The Right Scoop on October 26th, 2012 in Politics

Apparently this was put together by a San Francisco ad team that believes Romney will kill the planet or something. It’s a horrible song and it’s the left using kids that have no idea what they are really promoting to push their leftist agenda. Scissors-32x32.png

Re-electing President Obama is a momentous decision that will require every single voter.

What would the children of the future say if we let them down this November?

Lyrics:

Imagine an America

Where strip mines are fun and free

Where gays can be fixed

And sick people just die

And oil fills the sea

We don’t have to pay for freeways!

Our schools are good enough

Give us endless wars Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://www.therightscoop.com/ugh-indoctrinated-lib-kids-sing-about-how-horrible-the-world-will-be-if-we-dont-reelect-obama/

MSNBC Now Actively Telling Viewers How to Vote on Gay Marriage

By Jeffrey Meyer | October 26, 2012 | 13:25

It should come as no surprise that MSNBC's socially liberal anchors are biased in favor of gay marriage -- saying it's an issue of "marriage equality." But on Friday’s MSNBC Live, anchor Thomas Roberts dropped all pretext of being a neutral journalist by explicitly telling viewers how they should vote on the controversial issue.

Speaking on Friday with Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director of the Family Equality Council, openly gay host Thomas Roberts actually told his audience how to vote on ballot questions in the states of Maryland, Maine, Minnesota and Washington. [see video below. MP3 audio here.]

Obama Appearing on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' Monday

Having not done a press conference since June, Barack Obama has instead appeared on ABC's The View, CBS's Late Show with David Letterman, and NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Apparently feeling MSNBC's Morning Joe will present him with similar softballs and friendly confines, the President is doing an interview with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski Saturday to be aired Monday just eight days before Americans go to the polls.

What do Scarborough and Brzezinski have in common with late night talk show hosts and the ladies of The View?

Could it be their unabashed disdain for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney?

That is disgusting. Those kids are great singers but the person responsible should be ashamed.

Don't they all look like they are zonked on Ritalin?

They did. I thought it was because they were close to tears that Big Bird was going to be killed off.

The Register endorsement: Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision

The Register endorsement: Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision

The Register's Editorial

Ten months ago this newspaper endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination for president. An overarching consideration was which of the party’s candidates could we see occupying the White House, and there was no question that Romney was qualified for the job.

Now, in the closing days of the general election campaign, the question is which of the two contenders deserves to be the next president of the United States.

Both President Barack Obama and Governor Romney are superbly qualified. Both are graduates of the Harvard University Law School who have distinguished themselves in government, in public service and in private life. Both are devoted husbands and fathers.

American voters are deeply divided about this race. The Register’s editorial board, as it should, had a vigorous debate over sniphttp://www.desmoines...&nclick_check=1

Des Moines Register backs Mitt Romney

LAND O'LAKES, Fla.—Mitt Romney won a major newspaper endorsement on Saturday, as the Des Moines Register's editorial board formally backed the GOP candidate's bid for the presidency.

It was the first time in 40 years the influential battleground state paper endorsed a Republican in the general election, dating back to its support of Richard Nixon in the 1972 election. The Register previously backed Romney in the 2012 GOP primary.

In an editorial published on the newspaper's website Saturday night, the Register called both Romney and President Barack Obama "superbly qualified," citing their service in government and the fact they are both "devoted husbands and fathers."

But according to the paper, it determined Romney was better positioned to "forge the compromises in Congress" necessary to turn the economy around, create jobs and get the federal budget back on track.

"Romney has made rebuilding the economy his No. 1 campaign priority--and rightly so," the Register's editorial read.

At the same time, the paper noted Obama's "best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short."

"Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House," the paper said. "Barack Obama rocketed to the presidency from relative obscurity with a theme of hope and change. A different reality has marked his presidency. His record on the economy the past four years does not suggest he would lead in the direction the nation must go in the next four years."

Endgame as far as endorsements go?

Two Los Angeles papers went for O last time and endorsed Romney this time. hmmm

California may get a little weird this time. At least may make O spend money where he didn't want to.

Wonder if Feinstein will be reelected?

This year she also became the first woman to chair the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, a role she takes very seriously in helping protect the nation against terrorism.

October Surprises

Raymond Siller

October 26, 2012

Speculation is rampant that President Obama’s Chicago campaign team is about to unleash an October surprise. A source on background has revealed these disquieting schemes already in progress, as well as some of the president’s secret plans for his second term:

In a desperate attempt to win Florida, the campaign will enlist frogmen to move Osama bin Laden’s corpse to Sea World.

The Obama campaign will allege that prior to the second debate, Governor Romney tried to bribe Candy Crowley with a lifetime gift certificate to the Cheesecake Factory.

MoveOn.org will air a commercial in Colorado contending that last Christmas Mitt Romney visited a Denver mall and offered cookies and milk to a lactose intolerant Santa Claus.
