WestVirginiaRebel
Breitbart:The United States should "put the brakes" on the development of nuclear power plants as the disaster in Japan unfolds, key US senator Joe Lieberman said Sunday."I've been a big supporter of nuclear power because it's domestic -- it's ours and it's clean," Lieberman told the CBS News television program "Face The Nation." "We've had a good safety (record) with nuclear power plants here in the United States," he said. Still, "I think we've got to kind of quietly and quickly put the brakes on until we can absorb what has happened in Japan as a result of the earthquake and the tsunami and then see what more, if anything, we can demand of the new power plants that are coming online," said Lieberman, who is chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Friday's devastating 8.9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami sparked an emergency at two of Japan's nuclear power plants, leading to the risk of catastrophic meltdowns. In the first incident, part of a reactor at Japan's aging Fukushima No. 1 atomic plant blew up Saturday, a day after the biggest quake ever recorded in Japan unleashed a 10-meter (33-foot) tsunami. On Sunday, excessive levels of radiation were recorded at a second Japanese nuclear facility, Onagawa, although authorities insisted the facility's three reactor units were "under control."________You knew this was coming... Pepper
"You knew this was coming... " The Left has had this mindset forever. There is nothing new about this. The fact that Jiminy Cricket Are those really Nuts in my Jowels? Lieberman chimes in is not surprising either. Yes, let's put the breaks on it. let's keep sending money to the Arabs. SrWoodchuck
Lieberman is way past his expiration date. I admired him, because he was an effective voice for Israel, but he's gotta go. Let's just forget oil & "nuk-u-lar" and get suntans next to our solar arrays & cool off under our wind turbines. This way lays destruction.....but that's the point......daily destruction of our capabilities & culture. Clear cut those dam forests & put up them whirlygigs! NCTexan
What facts about nuclear power exist today that didn't exist last week? Leaders who have taken positions on important issues and then flip/flop after a news cycle either: 1) did not believe the information that drove previous positions 2) did not have any information on which they based their positions 3) are responding strictly from news hype and emotionalism 4) are pandering to a position which they think will be popular 5) or just received dramatic revelations that differ from their previous facts (I don't believe that's the case here.) Not sure where Joe comes out on this one. While I respect him at times, I can't forget that he has the mutant liberal gene, ran as VP with Algore, and that as Rush says, "A tiger, is a tiger, is a tiger!" Evad
We haven't built a "nuqular" plant in decades..how much more of a moratorium do you need?.. OR am I wrong?
NCTexan
We haven't built a "nuqular" plant in decades..how much more of a moratorium do you need?.. OR am I wrong? Evad! You forget of whom you speak... Liberman is a LIBERAL. He's means "thinking about" building a nuke site. Thinking, hope, and intentions are MUCH more important that what is actually done. Sabre86
Nearly all of the "experts" the media has been using, especially Fox for some reason, are from anti-nuclear groups which advocate the immediate shutdown of all nuclear plants.
Saltbag
Step one - Don't build a nuclear plant on a faultline, on top of an active volcano, anywhere near Charlie Sheen, or close to a black hole. The Japanese can't help but to break number one. Otherwise, nuclear power is perfectly safe.
