Los Angeles Times:

David Martin was in the mood for raw fish, and he liked the deal offered by a Studio City sushi restaurant: all you can eat for $28.

He took a seat at the counter and started ordering. But it turned out that Martin didn't really want sushi, which includes rice; he wanted all-you-can-eat sashimi, which is just fish. He began picking the seafood off the top and leaving the rice.

Restaurant owner Jay Oh told Martin that if he wanted the all-you-can-eat price, he'd have to eat the rice too and not just fill up on fish. Martin replied that he has diabetes and that he can't eat rice. :snip:

You can guess the rest of the story.

The author was the perfect one to write that article -- he has type 1 diabetes and he was unsympathetic to the idiot who wanted his "rights."

And truly, do you have an experience that you find not pleasurable and the first thing you think to do is hire an attorney?

Well I have diabetes, and I think this guy is horrible.

The important thing in managing type 2 is to maintain a good balance of foods and if you want to keep your blood glucose as low as possible YOU NEVER EAT ALL YOU CAN EAT! That's the whole key. It's not that you just outlaw everything, it is that you eat in moderation, eat carbs carefully and exercise and move more.

Do I do this as well as I should? Nope. I can be the worst diabetic in the world, and then I can do very well for a very long time. It's a royal pain in the butt and you often rage against the unfairness, then start to feel horrible because of what you've eaten and get back on the wagon. Honestly, it would be easier to just never eat again...but it's not possible so you do the best you can.

But at the end of the day, I am responsible for what goes in my mouth, how much and how well I manage this disease. It is no different than people who have any number of other diseases. This guy was being an unreasonable jerk. And I can say that it goes beyond me being irritated with him. He garners my complete contempt.

Excellent summation.

There's no way the restaurant should lose.

sushi restaurant: all you can eat for $28.

Sushi is rice AND fish.

Sushi (すし、寿司, 鮨, 鮓, 寿斗, 寿し, 壽司?) is a Japanese dish consisting of cooked vinegared rice which is commonly topped with other ingredients, such as fish or other seafood,[1] or put into rolls. Sliced raw fish by itself is called sashimi, as distinct from sushi.

It is an all you can east sushi, moron shoutDavid Martin, not all you can eat fish.
