Geee
Washington Examiner:Lost in all the hoopla about TSA’s turn-your-head-and-cough security checks and so-called new “porno-scanners” is the news that TSA is about to unionize:In a significant victory for federal employee unions, the Federal Labor Relations Authority decided Friday that Transportation Security Administration staffers will be allowed to vote on union representation. The decision clears the way for a campaign by the government’s two largest labor organizations, the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union, to represent some 50,000 transportation security officers. Stella
The rest of the world has to be laughing at us. I'm surprised that they aren't already unionized since it's a government job.

AceRimmer
TSA has already proven itself mostly incompetent. And unionizing is going to make them...what? Totally incompetent? If this weren't so serious, it'd make a great Saturday Night Live skit...
Geee
I remember some argument in congress when TSA was first set up after 9/11, some of the Dems were trying very hard to set them up as union and the Republicans held up the bill till it was taken out?? Does anyone else remember this?

Pepper
Geee Perfect Storm: TSA Workers Allowed to Unionize Can you imagine a job made in hell: floor supervisor of the TSA crew at MIA or ATL. Pilot ready to take off in 767: "Pull back the exit ramp." TSA: "Sorry, we have a security issue. Please stand by." "Hey, Maria, when are you going on break?" Does anyone else remember this? I remember. President Bush was very against it and threatened to veto the bill if the unionization/collective bargaining was included. pollyannaish
I'm never flying again. Seriously. NUTS. And I heard you can get religious dispensations if you wear muslim garb. Is that true? Are these people idiots? Really. It's out of control. You can not have a safety program based on FEELINGS.

Rheo
Ha. I think A51 posted the answer to our problems in Let it all out...and no unions needed. ---- The Israelis are developing an airport security device that eliminates the privacy concerns that come with full-body scanners at the airports. It's a booth you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you. They see this as a win-win for everyone, with no crap about racial profiling. It also would eliminate the costs of long and expensive trials. Justice would be swift. Case closed! You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system . . . "Attention standby passengers - we now have a seat available on flight number XXXX. Shalom" http://www.therightreasons.net/index.php?/topic/27001-finally-a-great-alternative-to-body-scanners-at-airports/
