WASHINGTON (AP) - House Democratic officials say the party has averted a leadership struggle in advance of next week's party elections.

Under the agreement, they say Rep. James Clyburn has agreed to drop his challenge to Rep. Steny Hoyer to become second in command. Instead, Clyburn will be elected to a new position one rung lower on the leadership ladder.

Word of the deal came in a vaguely worded statement from Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in line to become leader of the minority Democrats when Republicans take power in January.

Let me see if I've got my so called brain around this. The Democrats lost the US House, meaning they have no power there, and not really much to do....so of course the answer to this is creat another "leadership" spot.

Makes perfect sense to me.
