DELAWARE ONLINE:

Fox News released new polling numbers for Delaware today, showing Democrat Chris Coons leading Republican Christine O’Donnell by 16 points. (View full results pdf)

It was the second poll released today that showed Coons with a double digit lead.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters, had Coons leading with 54 percent ahead of O’Donnell with 38 percent. The poll has a 3 percent margin of error.

Coons is holding steady in Fox’s numbers, having received 54 percent when they polled in September. O’Donnell slipped, but only by 1 percentage point from 39 to 38 percent.

Fox News asked again about a hypothetical matchup between Coons and Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Castle, who O’Donnell defeated in the Republican primary. Castle actually gained two points to hold 50 percent against Coons, up from the 48 percent the last time Fox asked.

The poll found 58 percent have an unfavorable view of O’Donnell and 33 percent have a favorable view. Coons’ numbers were nearly flipped, with 50 percent reporting a favorable outlook and 38 percent unfavorable.

Don't you all think part of this is that the people of Delaware actually resent the Express and all the outsiders coming into to their state and telling them who to elect. I sure wouldn't like it if they did that here - oh wait, they did try to do that here and their candidate got 5% of the vote in the Primary.

Coons had such a huge lead, it would be almost impossible to overcome it with out of state money.

As much as we can't stand the liberals - they are not stupid as to what is going on in their state. Did the Tea Party Express really think the liberals would relinquish control of Delaware and New York to someone like Christine O'Donnell and Carl Paladino? How naive did the Tea Party Express think voters in these states are? Now if you ran someone like Chris Christie or Scott Brown - then you have a race!!! The Liberals would look at those candidates with a big "Maybe so" instead of a "Hell No!".

"Don't you all think part of this is that the people of Delaware actually resent the Express and all the outsiders coming into to their state and telling them who to elect."

This is a common statement, usually used by pols to diminish their opponent. I read the local rag, actually just skim, and haven't seen that expressed by anyone. Personally I don't think the electorate gets that far down in the weeds as to where the money is coming from. 'It's just another ad'. I think the people of Delaware, at least here in New Castle Co. are going to be D's forever and don't give voting for an R much thought.

Castle was an anomaly, but then again he was a RINO.

Maybe the debate tomorrow night will change her 'impossible to win' status. It will be interesting in any case. If she can control some of her audacious claims, she may luck out.

I really think this is the problem with a self proclaimed man who deems himself the chooser of everyone who can run on the GOP ticket. All the sections of the country are different. What works in SC will not work in Illinois or the Northeast. Also, people really do resent outside interests coming into their state and interfering with their elections. If the guy running the Express doesn't understand this, then he will deserve to lose. As much as the Express does not like Rove and Krauthammer, those two understand the dynamics of winning an election. It's really too bad they couldn't work together. It's what all the people of the GOP would like to see.

I heard she's not bad in the debates but then I heard that Coons is an expert and can run rings around any opponent. We'll see. I hope she does well. It will help her.

I would like to see one huge party - but it won't happen - the hated and resentment from 2008 and 2006 is too much. Noone will acknowledge that the people wanted a change from the Republicans just like now they want a change from the Democrats. It goes around and around like the Hamster running on the wheel. Anger does not help - party unity helps.

Casino, why does the GOP honestly think people will want to stay in a Party that calls them a name. RINO is the most obnoxious term. Maybe the only kind of Republican who can win in Illinois or the Northeast is a RINO. Calling people names is not the way to encourage Independent and moderates to vote with the GOP. They are being told time and again to go away- their kind is not welcomed in the GOP.

I've been called a RINO many times. Plus a few others things to go along with it - but I just go on voting Republican because I know in my heart that is what I am regardless of what they say. I may not be a super duper social conservative but I have been voting Republican since I was of the age to vote. My first ever vote for president was "the man himself" Ronald Reagan. Boy was I proud of myself that day. So I have accepted my "RINO" name tag and wear it with pride because I know how I vote and I know what I am regardless. Name calling doesn't bother me. Funny but with the Tea Party Express being in charge now I'm kinda proud of being called a RINO - At least I'm not following the crowd. I can now be associated with my fellow RINOS (Condi Rice, Chris Christie, Scott Brown, George Bush, Rudy Giuliani, George Pataki, and now we can add Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer LOL! and many others of course to that list who have been labeled like me). They have all been labeled RINOS at one time or another. Hey we are a pretty smart and successful group! :P :P :P ;-) And I am not talking about being labeled on this forum. I think we can guess the place I'm talking about. ;-)

I know, but RINO has been around for how long now?

In my slowly dementing mind, a RINO is one who crosses the 'aisle' and votes with the D's. As did Castle on many occasions.

In my time here in Delaware, I can only remember one time not voting for an R and that was for the position of Comptroller. The R candidate was still in school at the U of DE.

Voting for the other party doth not a RINO make.

Stella, if you will notice, most of those politicians that are called RINO here are those who have campaigned as a conservative candidate, yet vote to support some of the most damaging parts of the socialist agenda put forth by the leftist controlled Dim party. If one intends to represent a district as a fiscal conservative, but a social "moderate" (I really hate that term) then one should campaign on that stump. But, when a candidate campaigns by supporting the Republican agenda JUST TO GET ELECTED and then votes opposite of what their constituancy expects, then they are a RINO. Castle is a prime example of this type of Republican, and deserves the contempt that the name carries. This type of action makes a mockery of representative government and should not be tolerated by the electorate.

It works on both sides of the aisle......the well deserved "Socialist" tag is now haunting many Dims who ran as fiscal and/or social conservatives who then followed the Triumvirate in their quest to sink our country. By comparison, RINO is pretty mild.

It is clear calling people RINO's can vary all over the political spectrum from center right to left depending on what the starting view is. Castle voting for Cap & Trade to me rules him out as a viable Republican and we can't have more votes for such a dismal undertaking by our elected "Republicans".

edited to add: Cap&Trade is a total violation of FISCAL conservative principals. This is different than believing in Global Warming or wanting to do warm and fuzzy liberal things to address it. It is a business/US crippling set of laws that should be opposed by any Republican candidate.

Nicely clarified.

To me, fiscal conservatism and the smallest possible government are essential to a person being a conservative. Social issues and causes du jour come in a very distant second.

It's ironic that we've allowed ourselves to be positioned by the left as socially conservative first. There are also some GOP candidates that have done us a disservice in this area as well.

I think the one area that is a confusing mess is immigration.

Personally Immigration is an issue, but after 2004 it became an serious issue all of the sudden.. Where is the Minuteman Group???

It's definitely an issue...extremely important in some states, but one best not brought up in others. That said, I think it will be a huge issue in 2012.

And that is a VERY good question. Where are they now?
