Obama to get personal on economy

By GLENN THRUSH

President Barack Obama — facing a buzz saw of bad news — plans to shift his tone on the economy, ditching dry Explainer-in-Chief policy lectures for a more emotional, more personal approach emphasizing his own family’s hardships, administration officials tell POLITICO.

Exhibit A: Obama’s Wednesday trip to Cleveland — where Obama will follow up a pointed attack on House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) with a retelling of the economic struggles faced by his family during his childhood in Hawaii.

The president has no choice but to go gut-level. Not much else seems to be working.

“I think we’ve lost the president’s personal narrative in the story he’s been telling about the economy,” a senior administration official conceded Tuesday. “We recognize that. And you are going to see a change.”

Among the new rhetorical touchstones: A nod to his grandparents, who worked hard to put him through private school in Hawaii, and his mother, a single mom who was briefly forced to go on food stamps during his childhood. He also plans to invoke the struggles of Michelle Obama’s late father, Frasier Robinson, who supported his family on a modest salary as a Chicago water works employee despite years of failing health.

Obama will “reiterate his story and that of his family as a way of talking about the values of America and the idea of how the country was built” and repeat those themes “throughout” Wednesday’s speech, the official said.

That's not to say Obama never connects his past to America's present in speeches — but he's been reluctant to make the explicit link to avoid offending people enduring even greater hardships.

But Democrats have begun to wonder if there’s anything Obama can do to dig his party out a deepening hole before the November midterms, with his approval numbers tanking and his emergency $180 billion tax cut, stimulus and infrastructure program unlikely to pass the Congress anytime soon.snip

Zero just doesn't get it.....it's not him that is disliked, it is his policies. Going back to the campaign propaganda is not going to improve that.

I guess his staff of advisors have run out of options, since they have no one to sic the union thugs on. Really, polictics just ain't that complicated...when the folks don't like the message, change the message, not the subject.

:o

Are these people idiots?!!! After vacationing all summer in fancy places, golfing regularly, wearing expensive clothes—after having people around them that wait on them hand and foot, feed them fancy meals and wash their clothes...they are going to try to talk about his own families HARDSHIPS several generations ago? Really?!! That is not YOUR story Obama, that is THEIR story.

I'm speechless. Really, truly speechless. This doesn't even make me mad and I say go for it. It just stuns me beyond all measure. They are beyond tone deaf. They are completely and totally blind, deaf and dumb!

NAH!

It used to be that for me but now, it's his policies AND I dislike him.

He is a lier and everything I abhor, all wrapped up into one socialist anti American package.
