ErnstBlofeld
East-Asia Intel: China is likely building new facilities for its revolutionary new anti-ship ballistic missile in Guangdong province, the 2049 Institute reported Aug. 3. A report by the think tank stated that the PLA Second Artillery Corps, China's missile forces, announced that a new missile brigade facility, the 96166 Unit in the northern Guangdong municipality of Shaoguan is under construction. “Although the province is already home to a Second Artillery short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) brigade (the 96169 unit in Meizhou), initial reports and indicators signal that the new unit could have unique capabilities that could complicate the strategic calculus in Asia, and the South China Sea in particular,” the report said. The facility is expected to house the 1,700 kilometer range solid fuel terminally guided DF-21C missile, but the report said the brigade “is also a candidate to be the first unit equipped with the DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM).” Edited September 23, 2010 by Rheo snipped
