The Hill:

Van Jones calls on liberals to locate their patriotism
By Sara Jerome - 07/23/10 12:37 PM ET

Anthony “Van” Jones urged the liberal social media community at the Netroots Nation conference in Las Vegas on Friday to strike a patriotic chord as they try to prevent what he called “the worst in America” from “winning the day.”

He said as activists take on negative forces, such as “executives at BP,” they should think of the words of “America The Beautiful.”

“You remember that it didn’t say ‘liberty and justice for all except for the gay people ... or the immigrants,’” he said.

Jones resigned from his position as a White House green jobs adviser in September after it came to light that he signed a petition in 2004 supporting the “9/11 truther movement.” The movement contends that former President George W. Bush might have been involved in the 9/11 attacks.

He addressed his resignation in an interview after he gave a keynote address.

“I quit, I resigned, I didn’t want to be the banana peel that the president of the United States had to slip on as he tried to pass healthcare,” he said.
