South Carolina's Democratic Party has asked its own Senate nominee to withdraw after learning the man has been arrested on a felony charge.

Chairwoman Carol Fowler said she asked Alvin Greene to withdraw from the campaign against U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint on Wednesday after The Associated Press unearthed court records showing Greene was arrested in November for allegedly showing obscene Internet photos to a University of South Carolina student. The felony charge carries up to five years in prison.

"I did not do this lightly, as I believe strongly that the Democratic voters of this state have the right to select our nominee," Fowler said. "But this new information about Mr. Greene ... would certainly have affected the decisions of many of those voters."

Greene has yet to be indicted and would not comment on the felony charge. But he said he would not step aside......

Texas Insider/CNN:Facing Charges, Democrat Refuses to Leave S.C. Senate Race

Mark Preston

CNN Senior Political Editor

6/10/10

Washington (CNN) – Alvin Greene, the 32-year-old unemployed South Carolina Democrat who surprised party leaders by easily winning Tuesday’s Senate primary, vowed in an interview with CNN to remain in the race despite facing charges of “disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity.”

“The voters of South Carolina have spoken, we have to remember that,” Greene said in a telephone interview Wednesday from his home in Manning, South Carolina. “They have chosen me as their Democratic Party nominee and we have to be pro-South Carolina rather than anti-Greene.”

South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler issued a statement Wednesday calling on Greene to relinquish the nomination and noted that she had personally made the request to him.

“Today I spoke with Alvin Greene, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, and asked him to withdraw from the race,” said Fowler, who cited an Associated Press report about Greene’s prior arrest. “I did not do this lightly, as I believe strongly that the Democratic voters of this state have the right to select our nominee. But this new information about Mr. Greene … would certainly have affected the decisions of many of those voters.

“We are proud to have nominated a Democratic ticket this year that, with the apparent exception of Mr. Greene, reflects South Carolina’s values. Our candidates want to give this state a new beginning without the drama and irresponsibility of the past 8 years, and the charges against Mr. Greene indicate that he cannot contribute to that new beginning. I hope he will see the wisdom of leaving the race.”

South Carolina Democrats chose Greene Tuesday to challenge Republican Sen. Jim DeMint in November. DeMint is strongly favored to win a second term....(Snip)

SUMMERVILL (WACH) -- Surprise Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene's accuser is speaking out about the felony charges alleging he showed obscene Internet photos to a USC student in November.

Camille McCoy says she was in the library when Greene approached her.

She was shocked at what happened next.

"He says, 'do you like football,' and I told him yeah," McCoy says. "He was like, 'well look at my screen then,' and it was just porn."

"We're very much here and I intend to be his worst nightmare until he resigns," explains mother Susan McCoy....(Snip)

It's a conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Here is Alvin Greene, unemployed, he goes into the Democratic headquarters and pays $10,000. That’s no little bit of money for an unemployed person,” House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., said. “This guy, who is he? Where did he come from?”

“He’s been paid to stay in it, by somebody,” Clyburn said. “I just think this is a ploy by someone to dishonor and embarrass the Democratic Party.”[/i]

Too late, Clymer, it's hard to dishonor something that has no honor. Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Dodd, Schumer, Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, and Democrats from years past have done that.

That's what I mean. It'd be impossible. The bar has been set so low, it's lower than Obama's hole in the Gulf.

Pepper!

Question...Is it actually possible to embarrass the Democratic Party?

It was meant as a rhetorical question.

Actually it may very well be possible to embarrass them...see the actions of the Democrats in Congress in the aftermath of 9-11, and ask yourself why they never bring their votes and statements up.

Question # 2: Do they need outside help to soil their own nest?

One would hope that, with Mr. Greene's military credentials, Obama doesn't offer him Gate's job. Czar of Arms.

Maxine Waters, Patty Murray, Sen. Babs, and Sheila Jackson Lee.

Who are poster children for the impossibility of the Dems being embarrassed by incompetence, Alex?

The real embarrassment is that this guy won 60% of the vote in the primary without even running a campaign.
