Big Hollywood:

The Brits, as we all know, have a thing about “class.” For example, your accent not only denotes what part of the country from which you hail, but whether you are “working class,” “middle class,” or “nobility” and all things in between. And if you have the “wrong” accent, good luck getting accepted into certain circles.

For someone who comes from a nation that’s still so hung up on class, Paul McCartney recently demonstrated that he has none.

McCartney – excuse me, Sir Paul McCartney, obviously a classy guy – was in the East Room at the White House, receiving the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Despite the non-political nature of the event, which featured McCartney himself and other musicians performing his songs in front of a select audience (including the President and First Lady), somehow Paul couldn’t hold back a snarky remark about Obama’s predecessor:

“After the last eight years, it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

Nice.

Here you are, invited to the United States to receive a prestigious award from the Library of Congress in the White House, the most celebrated address in America no matter who resides there. Bush was not your president then, just as Obama is not your president now. You’re just a visitor. And yet you, the guest of honor at a very swank party, have to mar the event with a tacky insult aimed at a man who is no longer calling the shots but is now a private citizen minding his own business. You also feel the need to tell the current president’s critics that Obama’s a great guy and you’re a huge fan, so “lay off.”

Sometimes I think the Left misses Bush a lot more than they're willing to admit. A year and a half after he's gone, they just can't seem to let go. Some would call that a tad obsessive.

You know, I used to feel sorry for the guy because of his ex-wife. I'm kinda starting to see there are two sides to everything. ;)

Who's Paul McCartney?

Just another old fart with soft skin, too many plastic surgeries and an ego far larger than what is warranted. He most likely believes what he says is of great interest to far more people than it actually is. (Trying to be funny . . . trying to fit in?)

I thought using the words "trashes Bush" was a rather extreme headline. George W is certainly not trashed in my mind!

And to think, when I was four years old and Beatles crazy (yes! I was precocious brat) I wanted to run away from home and marry Paul!!!

I was not a current-music fan in my youth. I loved classical music. (I know, weird!). But I really like Paul McCartney. A lot of water has gone over the bridge since then and after Linda. And in today's arena, it is certainly hard for me to find any entertainment industry people to admire.

I will confess I was a totally "in love" Beatle fan at age 16 and 17. could not decide whether I wanted to marry Paul or George but finally decided on George (until he went Hari Krishna on me.) I even still have a drawing I did of Paul and photos of my television screen when they were on Ed Sullivan. I saw Hard Day's Night probably half a dozen times, though I thought it was boring. Bought ALL their albums while in high school and felt terribly guilty because I had jilted Ricky Nelson (my first love)

Needless to say I and 2 friends and my mother as escort. MY! how times have changed! went to their concert appearance in Dallas. My normally very reserved, elegant and statuesque mother stood on a chair to see them better. :P

How did they sound in person?

Have not a clue. Too much and too loud screaming from the probably 100% girl audience.

Meant to add that in those days if any of our parents had known their real background performing in sex bars in Germany etc instead of the squeaky clean English boy next door marketing bill of goods, well, might have been a different story.

Ok. I feel better about being a fan now—I am a gigantic Ringo fan because he always struck me as the one guy that didn't take himself too seriously. And he wrote the most fun, light songs.

For me, I like Ringo, respect George's deep and varied talent in all areas of music......and could do without Paul and John.
