House Overrides Health Care Veto
Plan Would Allow People In Oklahoma To Opt-Out Of Federal Health Care Law

The Oklahoma House has overridden Gov. Brad Henry's veto of legislation to allow Oklahomans to opt out of a new federal health care overhaul law.

The House voted 72-24 without debate Tuesday to override the veto, more than the two-thirds vote needed for the measure to go into effect without Henry's signature. It must still be overridden by the Senate.

The resolution by Rep. Mike Ritze of Broken Arrow would allow Oklahomans to opt out of the law that requires Americans to have health insurance. The measure also authorizes legislative leaders to hire an attorney to sue the government to keep the law from taking effect.

Henry vetoed the bill on Friday. He said it would expose taxpayers to costly and unnecessary legal bills.

Needless to say, both the Governor and Attorney General are Democrats, which is why the bill had a clause to hire an attorney under legislative authorization.
