Some of the most powerful people in America assembled in Washington, DC, today to help shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) safeguards.

The unprecedented meeting took place as the US Senate gears up to draft legislation that will regulate the rapidly advancing AI industry, which many of the world's best minds fear could destroy humanity if left unchecked.

The gathering brought 22 of the most influential voices in the tech sector - who had a combined net worth of over $400billion - and 100 senators under one roof, bridging the gap between Silicon Valley and the nation's capital.

The high-profile event included notorious AI critic Elon Musk, who today called for tighter regulation of AI, as well as Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and the CEOs of Google and IBM

The private meeting was a crash course for legislators on how best to regulate AI: a technical achievement which some of these same industry leaders likened to the 'extinction'-level risk of nuclear weapons

Those who fear AI fear it could surpass human intelligence and develop independent thinking. This means it would no longer need or listen to humans, in a worst-case scenario stealing nuclear codes, create pandemics and spark world wars.

In additional to his reputation for massive wealth, Elon Musk is known for his influential role in AI.

As the CEO of Tesla, he has been a driving force behind the development of autonomous vehicles, pushing the boundaries of AI in the automotive industry with features like Tesla's Autopilot.

The 52-year-old has also been a vocal advocate for AI safety and has co-founded OpenAI to ensure responsible AI development.

After the meeting with US lawmakers today, Musk has been a vocal proponent of AI safety, and said a 'referee' is  needed to monitor systems. :snip:75406471-12515045-image-a-35_1694645413950.thumb.jpg.228ca4b0790c5a4083efcfa89f5d4dc1.jpg

Troubling trend of woke AI is a big threat to free speechHave you ever seen the YouTube video of the young boy at Christmas unwrapping a Nintendo 64 and completely freaking out with excitement? "Nintendo Sixty-FOOOOOOOOOOOUR!" Utter bliss. And that kid was me! My peak experiences as a kid always coincided with groundbreaking technology launches.

The big N64 moment came for me as an adult was when I first saw OpenAI’s ChatGPT perform with its dazzling human-like responses. I knew instantly that we had something special and radically different in our hands.

But my elation quickly turned to concern as I realized how easily artificial intelligence (AI) can be used for nefarious purposes. Who controls the AI, and what is their agenda?

As someone who has spent 1,000+ hours in 2023 building with ChatGPT, I would like to offer my perspective on how I look behind the curtain to the puppeteer while the rest of society stares at the puppet.

Big technology firms like Apple, Facebook (Meta), Google (Alphabet) and Microsoft are poised to dominate this new market. We are watching a data monopoly congeal in front of our eyes, and need to pay careful attention to the decisions these firms are making.

An ugly truth about large language models, or LLM — the technology behind ChatGPT — is that they are susceptible to manipulation. But first let’s break down what makes the secret sauce that is ChatGPT.

To prepare this AI for the main course, we need a few key ingredients to cook with — the algorithm and a mechanism for collecting feedback to improve the model, which we call Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback, or RLHF.

Let’s say you ask the AI for some help, so, you ask ChatGPT, "How do I write an article for Fox News on AI?" In a laboratory, the computer generates an initial response to the question and if the answer is written poorly then a human rater would flag this response as poor.  :snip:

@Geee

Good Luck with Controlling This.

Oh the House and Senate may pass a law and the President may sign it. And a new Dept. of Agriculture  is born.

Here is the problem 1.  No Borders in Cyber Space, 2. Criminals Don't Obey The Law, 3. Countries who are our enemies, don't care what laws are  passed.

Once again I point out That Little Silicon Chip is changing EVERYTHING. Think of this as a new  Arms Race in Cyber.
