Draggingtree
Chronicles Magazine Is Taiwan’s Independence Worth War? by Patrick J. Buchanan August 2, 2022 When a man knows he is about to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully, said Dr. Samuel Johnson. If there is any benefit to be realized from the collision between China and the U.S. over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s proposed trip to Taiwan, it is this: America needs to reflect long and hard upon what it is we will fight China to defend in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea. China, after all, is a nuclear-weapons nation with a manufacturing base larger than our own, an economy equal to our own, a population four times ours, and fleets of warships larger in number than the U.S. Navy. An air-naval-and-missile war in the Western Pacific and East Asia would be no cakewalk. A massive barrage of anti-ship and hypersonic missiles launched by China could cripple and conceivably sink the U.S. carrier Ronald Reagan now in the South China Sea. The Reagan carries a crew of thousands of sailors almost as numerous as the U.S. casualty lists from both Pearl Harbor and 9/11, the worst attacks in and on the U.S. outside of such Civil War battles as Gettysburg and Antietam. What in East Asia or the Western Pacific would justify such losses? What would justify such risks? Since President Richard Nixon’s trip to China, and President Jimmy Carter’s abrogation of the mutual defense treaty with the Republic of China on Taiwan in 1979, the U.S. is not obligated to come to the defense of Taiwan against China, which claims that island the size of Maryland as “part of China.”

Next Question. It appears Pat has bought into the propaganda.
Valin
From The Comments Quote To think that this is just about Taiwan is looking at things through a narrow lens, and that we will preserve our peace and safety by staying of Hawaii and South of the Solomons. We Americans will have to get it through our thick heads that WE ARE THEIR MAIN TARGET. PERIOD! Gen. Robert Spalding (author of “Stealth War”) , David P Goldman (author of “You Will Be Assimilated: China’s Plan to Sino-Form the World”), and Rebekah Koffler, Russian-born former DIA analyst (author of “Putin’s Playbook”) says as much. So MANY klaxons, Red Danger Lights and Alarm Bells should NOT be ignored. One should expect that China’s conquest of the Pacific (which is ONLY their opening to the rest of the Southern Hemisphere, while Russia brings the European Continent to heel) will BEGIN with a thoroughgoing “Pearl Harbor” involving our entire Homeland, and millions of casualties, wherein the rest of the World will surrender and submit to the Twin Tyrants of World Island. We should be preparing for THIS contingency, and, based of these books I’ve listed, WE WERE RIGHT to give Russia serious grief in Ukraine. We should also have NEVER given up our energy independence that Trump secured for us, as Europe now has to grovel before Russia for their energy needs, which WE could have supplied to them. Rebekah makes abundantly clear that these two Great Powers of Eurasia will ALWAYS prefer Tyranny to democracy, as THAT is what meets their security needs. WE need to get back to OUR Monroe Doctrine, in that we DO NOT CARE HOW World Island is governed, only that they keep it to themselves and not venture across Oceans, which is THE DOMAIN of the Five Eyes (now Six, counting Japan) Nations. We need to rearm and prepare for war if we actually want peace (or what passes for peace in THIS Dark World).

Valin
Aug 3, 2022 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's brief visit to Taiwan triggers China to see red, rattle sabers, and let the whole world know just how frightened they are of an 'American geezer chick in a pink pantsuit.'
