WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday, July 28, the U.S. Postal Service announced the creation of a new dedicated division to handle election mail. The Election and Government Mail Services is part of an effort to effectively deliver mail-in ballots to voters and elections offices in advance of the 2022 midterm elections.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a massive increase in the number of voters choosing to vote by mail, with over 135 million ballots delivered to voters in 2020. This led to concerns that the Postal Service would be unable to deliver ballots in time for the 2020 election. While the Postal Service says 97.9% of ballots were delivered to election officials within three days, the creation of the division will help the service better respond to issues with election mail in every community.

“We are fully committed to the secure and timely delivery of the nation’s election mail,” said Adrienne Marshall, the executive director of the new division:snip:

Wisconsin DOJ opens investigation into fraudulent ballot stunt

The Wisconsin Department of Justice opened an investigation into a fraudulent ballot scheme Friday after a group of residents allegedly plotted to request illegitimate absentee ballots in August's primary elections.

Several residents who believe widespread voter fraud caused former President Donald Trump to lose the election used fake information to obtain absentee ballots in the names of other people and have the ballots mailed to them to demonstrate voter fraud is possible, according to the state's DOJ.

"DOJ is aware of reports of ballots being requested in Racine County for registered voters without their permission. DOJ has been in contact with (Racine County) DA (Patricia) Hanson and will be investigating this matter. As this is an ongoing matter, DOJ will not be providing further comment at this time," DOJ spokeswoman Gillian Drummond said in a statement, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.:snip:
