An armed male who was lurking near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was detained and charged overnight, law enforcement officials say.

Officials say the man was armed with a handgun, knife and pepper spray and was located close to the justice’s house. When questioned by police, he admitted he was in the area with the intent to kill Kavanaugh.

“At approximately 1:50 a.m. today, a man was arrested near Justice Kavanaugh’s residence. The man was armed and made threats against Justice Kavanaugh. He was transported to Montgomery County Police 2nd District,” the Court said in a brief statement.:snip:

Protesters Allowed Outside Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Home After Assassination Threat

The Justice Department appears to still be allowing protesters to gather outside of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home even after police arrested a man who allegedly intended to assassinate him.

Video on Wednesday showed protesters marching in front of the justice’s home shouting pro-abortion slogans. The protesters also made their way over to Chief Justice John Roberts’ home as well.:snip:

Arrest outside Justice Kavanaugh's home is shocking. But, sadly, not surprising. - Jonathan Turley

The arrest of a man near of the home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh early Wednesday is a chilling escalation in our age of rage.

Police said the man, identified in court records as Nicholas John Roske of California, had a pack carrying a Glock pistol, a tactical knife, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer and a crow bar.

Roske, according to news reports, was angry that the Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade this month. He faces charges of attempting to kidnap, murder or threaten a federal judge. (This incident came after a judge was recently zip tied and killed in his Wisconsin home; a former defendant in the judge's courtroom has been charged.)

Politicians and commentators rushed to condemn the threat. Few of them, however, are willing to admit that it was both shocking but not surprising. For months, critics of the Supreme Court have ratcheted up the rhetoric against Kavanaugh and his colleagues, including calls for protesters to be more aggressive outside the justices' homes.

Politicians and pundits have raced to the bottom by discarding any sense of restraint or responsibility in denouncing the court's conservative majority over a leaked draft of an opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, that made the case for overturning Roe.:snip:
