The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested former White House economic adviser Peter Navarro on Friday, acting on a referral from the Democrat-run House that held him in contempt for refusing to testify at the partisan January 6 Committee.

Navarro was held in contempt by Congress in March, along with former White House communications aide Dan Scavino, who was accused of refusing to testify based on false claims by the committee that he had not tried to cooperate.

As Breitbart News noted at the time:

Navarro has said candidly in interviews that the plan among Trump loyalists was to use a peaceful protest at the Capitol to pressure Congress and Vice President Mike Pence to reject the certification of Electoral College votes from states where the results were being contested by the Trump campaign.

Contrary to the claims of the January 6 committee, Navarro said that the violence that erupted interfered with the plan and ensured its failure.

Navarro is among several witnesses who have sued the committee in federal court, claiming that it is violating the separation of powers by performing a law enforcement function, and that it has violated the terms of its own enabling resolution.:snip:

The Biden administration arrested former Trump official, Peter Navarro

Peter Navarro occupied a prominent place in President Trump’s administration, serving as Trump’s Senior Trade and Economic Advisor. (That was when the economy was booming and Americans of all colors, creeds, and political stripes were thriving.) On Friday, however, the FBI arrested Navarro, putting him in handcuffs and throwing him in a cell, because he refused to testify before the January 6 commission, which is arguably improperly constituted and therefore lacks the power to issue subpoenas. This is how totalitarians act when they gain power.

The arrest resulted from Merrick Garland convening a grand jury in D.C. to have it issue an indictment against Navarro. (The old saying is that a prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich but it’s even less work when the ham sandwich is a Republican in D.C.):snip:

DOJ declines to charge Meadows and Scavino for defying Jan. 6 committee

The Justice Department will not charge former Trump White House officials Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino for refusing to cooperate with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

The House voted on two separate occasions to hold Meadows and Scavino in contempt of Congress in December and April, respectively, for refusing to testify in front of the committee and recommended to the Justice Department that they be prosecuted. Word that the two former White House officials would not be charged came after former Trump adviser Peter Navarro was indicted Friday for failing to comply with a subpoena.:snip:

Power Line

Actually, refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas is rather common. Remember when Eric Holder, Barack Obama’s “wing man,” did the same thing?

The House has voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holderin contempt of Congress over his failure to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious scandal, the first time Congress has taken such a dramatic move against a sitting Cabinet official.

The vote was 255-67, with 17 Democrats voting in support of a criminal contempt resolution, which authorizes Republicans leaders to seek criminal charges against Holder.

In a statement released by his office, Holder blasted the contempt votes as “politically motivated” and “misguided”…

Another partisan move from Justice Department

Former Trump trade advisor Peter Navarro was cuffed and dragged into custody Friday. For no reason: the 72-year-old said he would have voluntarily surrendered over his contempt of Congress charges relating to his refusal to work with the Jan. 6 Committee and noted he was given no warning that he was going to be arrested.

The man has no history of violence and zero flight risk. And the judge in his case released him on his own recognizance — an admission that no one really thinks Navarro is going anywhere. Defendants in similar situations are nearly always given the opportunity to surrender.

Instead the feds pulled Navarro off a plane at a Nashville airport as he was off to a TV appearance.

This is pure, ugly politics. The Justice Department and the Jan. 6 committee are coming down hard on Navarro for being a Donald Trump ally, nothing else. It’s a naked effort to drum up publicity, outrage and media interest for next week’s hearings over just how involved the ex-prez and various other officials were with the Capitol riots. :snip:

Peter Navarro Speaks After Indictment, Arrest For Contempt: January 6 "Kangaroo Committee" Is Not Following Its Own Rules

Former Trump White House advisor Peter Navarro explained that he will be representing himself against charges of contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with subpoenas from the House panel investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.

Navarro said his communications with the former president are covered by executive privilege and he does not have to turn over any records. Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows and deputy Dan Scavino were also referred by the House committee on similar charges but the Justice Department declined to charge them. They have also charged Steve Bannon.

Navarro questioned the legitimacy of the committee, saying they are not following their own rules and "essentially acting as judge, jury, and executioner.":snip:
